1.8 Million Turkish Voters Cast Votes Abroad

A record number of Turkish voters have cast their votes abroad for the country’s presidential and parliamentary elections. Since overseas voting began on April 27, more than 1.79 million people voted at Turkish diplomatic missions abroad and customs gates as of Tuesday evening.

Turkish expats cast their votes in 151 representative offices and 16 centers in 73 countries, reaching 3,416,150 in 2023 in comparison to 3,044,837 in 2018.

The number of ballot boxes abroad increased from 1,186 in the 2014 elections, to 3,386 in the 2018 elections, and then to 5,114 in the 2023 elections.

Voting began in the foreign representations and border crossings on April 27, and the ballot boxes in the foreign representations will close on May 9. Meanwhile, customs gates will continue until May 14.

Voters across Turkey will go to the polls on May 14 to choose their candidates for the presidential and parliamentary elections.
