CNPC Continues Orderly Overseas Oil and Gas Operations Despite COVID-19 Outbreak

BEIJING, March 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Andes Petroleum Ecuador LTD. of China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corporation (CNODC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (Shanghai: 601857) (CNPC), has put two new oil wells into production in the Province of Orellana, Ecuador, a breakthrough for CNPC in the field of lithologic oil reservoir exploration.

As the COVID-19 spreads globally, CNPC is ensuring uninterrupted production and smooth management in its various projects overseas, while introducing China’s effective measures in preventing and controlling the epidemic to other countries, partners and staff. Dai Houliang, Chairman of CNPC, wrote letters specifically to foreign partners and received understanding and support.

On January 26, CNODC initiated a Level I public health emergency response and put together a leading group for COVID-19 prevention and control. The most essential task is to implement various preventive and control measures and to guarantee that production and operations are carried out in a highly-organized way.

CNODC then introduced telecommuting solutions highlighting the use of a uniform communication and video conferencing platform to support flexible working. The overseas companies and projects also prepared disease prevention and control implementation programs and contingency plans, which include procurement of necessary supplies and paying close attention to staff wellbeing.

In addition, CNPC actively reported the situation of China’s fight against the epidemic and CNPC’s people-oriented measures to foreign staff of its joint ventures, local communities and governments, and provided regular briefings on the health conditions of its Chinese staff.

CNPC’s refining company in Niger published articles about COVID-19 on Niger’s official website ACTUNIFER and national newspaper Le SAHEL. RAYNATOU MAHAMADOU SALIFOU from the Niger-Benin crude oil pipeline project wrote for the local newspaper on the prevention and control of COVID-19. In Brazil, CNPC sent more than 30 letters to its partners and community residents.

“CNPC stands with all of our staff and partners in the fight against the novel coronavirus. We are committed to providing all necessary assistance to keep everyone safe and healthy while trying the best to contribute to the economic and social development of host countries, by ensuring continued oil and gas production from our overseas projects,” said Wang Zhongcai, Vice President of PetroChina & Chairman of CNODC.

Double-digit profitability growth at Natura &Co in Q4

Growth at all three brands, in a year marked by the acquisition of Avon Products, Inc.

SÃO PAULO, March 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Natura &Co posted another strong performance in the fourth quarter of 2019, with revenue growth in all three of its brands, Natura, The Body Shop and Aesop, and a 12.2% increase in adjusted EBITDA.

The fourth-quarter performance caps another transformational year for Natura &Co as it announced the acquisition of Avon Products, Inc. in May 2019, creating the world’s fourth-largest pure play beauty group and a leader in the Direct-to-Consumer space, with a portfolio of iconic brands. That transaction officially closed on January 3, 2020.

Natura &Co’s consolidated net revenue reached R$4.7 billion in Q4, up 7.3% on a reported basis and up 6.1% at constant currency. Adjusted EBITDA was R$816.7 million, up by a strong 12.2%. Underlying Operating Income (UOI), which excludes one-off items, was up in Q4 by a very strong 18.2%. Net income, at 14.3 million Reais, was impacted by Avon-related acquisition costs and taxes related to the creation of the Natura &Co Holding company.

In the full-year, consolidated net revenue grew 7.8% on a reported basis and 7.0% at constant currency to 14.4 billion Reais. Adjusted EBITDA was up 7.5% to 2.0 billion Reais and UOI increased 5.7%.

The quarter also saw Natura &Co make new advances in sustainability: Natura became the first beauty company in Brazil to obtain the Green Patent from INPI, the National Institute of Intellectual Property, for the use of residue assets from Brazil’s biodiversity as production inputs, while The Body Shop won Ethical Corporation’s Plastics Innovation award for its Community Fair Trade program.

Roberto Marques, Executive Chairman of Natura &Co, declared: “2019 was another year of profitable growth and transformation for Natura &Co, as we continued to make significant progress in building a multi-brand, multi-channel, purpose-driven group. Our results continue to demonstrate our ability to serve an ever-increasing number of customers across price points and distribution channels.

Natura posted further growth while evolving its Relationship Selling model and multichannel strategy; The Body Shop continued to successfully implement its ongoing transformation plan and expanded margin; and Aesop’s business picked up strongly in the fourth quarter, resulting in another year of solid double-digit growth.

The year 2019 was of course marked by the announcement of our acquisition of Avon, which we successfully closed ahead of schedule just after the New Year. We continue to see major growth opportunities and potential to unlock significant synergies. With Avon we are creating a group even more committed to making positive social, economic and environmental impact, with a stronger voice to advocate for causes that matter to us. Together, we have started our journey to build not the best beauty company in the world, but the best beauty company FOR the world.”

The Natura brand’s adjusted net revenue in Brazil was up 3.0% in Q4, a very strong performance as it came against a very challenging comparable base. Productivity per consultant rose for the 13th consecutive quarter. Natura’s digital platform now has over 900,000 users in Brazil and online sales grew in double-digits. Latam also saw growth of 10.6% in net revenue in Brazilian Reais and a stronger 28.9% in constant currency. Argentina posted a strong performance despite a challenging market environment, and Mexico and Colombia also delivered growth. EBITDA and margin increased in Q4 both in Brazil and in Latam. In the full year, sales were up 4.0% in Brazil and 13.5% in Latam (+23.9% in constant currency).

The Body Shop continues to make headway in its transformation plan. Net revenue was up 6.7% in Reais in Q4. Sales grew 5.4% in the UK, underscoring the brand’s attractiveness in its biggest market. Adjusted EBITDA was up 7.8% with margin up 20 basis points. Full-year sales rose 6.3% and Adjusted EBITDA was up 15.5%, with margin up 90 basis points.

Aesop delivered an exceptional performance. Revenue increased 25.78% in Reais and 13.4% at constant currency. Like-for-like retail sales growth was 7% in the quarter, and Aesop opened seven new signature stores in the period, bringing the total to 247. EBITDA grew 44.8% in the quarter, with margin growing by 360 basis points. In the full year, sales rose 22.5% in Reais and 12.3% at constant currency, while EBITDA was up 40.0%, with margin expansion of 210 basis points.

Natura &Co’s net-debt-to-EBITDA ratio stood at 2.41 times at year-end, decreasing from 2.71x in Q4-18, helped by solid cash-flow generation. The group is on track to achieve its target of reducing the company’s leverage to the pre-The Body Shop acquisition level of 1.4 times by 2021.

Axiom Space plans first-ever fully private human spaceflight mission to International Space Station

HOUSTON, March 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Today Axiom Space announced it is planning history’s first fully private human spaceflight to the International Space Station.

Axiom has signed a contract with SpaceX for a Crew Dragon flight which will transport a commander professionally trained by Axiom alongside three private astronauts to and from the International Space Station. The mission, set to launch as soon as the second half of 2021, will allow the crew to live aboard the ISS and experience at least eight days of microgravity and views of Earth that can only be fully appreciated in the large, venerable station.

“This history-making flight will represent a watershed moment in the march toward universal and routine access to space,” Axiom CEO Michael Suffredini said. “This will be just the first of many missions to ISS to be completely crewed and managed by Axiom Space – a first for a commercial entity. Procuring the transportation marks significant progress toward that goal, and we’re glad to be working with SpaceX in this effort.”

This is the first of Axiom’s proposed “precursor missions” to the ISS envisioned under its 2016 Space Act Agreement (SAA) with NASA. Discussions with NASA are underway to establish additional enabling agreements for the private astronaut missions to ISS.

Axiom plans to offer professional and private astronaut flights to ISS at a rate of up to two per year to align with flight opportunities as they are made available by NASA, while simultaneously constructing its own privately funded space station.

“Since 2012, SpaceX has been delivering cargo to the International Space Station in partnership with NASA and later this year, we will fly NASA astronauts for the first time,” said SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell. “Now, thanks to Axiom and their support from NASA, privately crewed missions will have unprecedented access to the space station, furthering the commercialization of space and helping usher in a new era of human exploration.”

With its team’s vast experience in human spaceflight, Axiom serves as a one-stop shop overseeing all elements of its missions. In addition to contracting with SpaceX for a Crew Dragon vehicle to transport its crew to the ISS, Axiom’s turnkey service for the mission – two days in transit and at least eight days aboard the ISS – includes training, mission planning, hardware development, life support, medical support, crew provisions, hardware and safety certifications, on-orbit operations and overall mission management.

NASA recently selected Axiom’s proposal to attach its space station modules to the ISS beginning in the second half of 2024, ultimately creating a new ‘Axiom Segment’ which will expand the station’s usable and habitable volume. When the ISS reaches its retirement date, the Axiom complex will detach and operate as a free-flying commercial space station.

By serving the market for immediate access to space while building the future platform for a global user base, Axiom is leading the development and settlement of low Earth orbit now and into the future.

About Axiom Space

Axiom Space was founded in 2016 with the aim of creating humanity’s home in space to ensure a prosperous future for everyone, everywhere. While building and launching the Axiom Segment of the International Space Station to one day form the world’s first commercial space station, Axiom provides access to the ISS today by conducting crewed missions for professional and private astronauts. More information about Axiom can be found at www.axiomspace.com.

Premier orders closure of coronavirus-hit Bethlehem

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh ordered today a full closure of the city of Bethlehem, south of the West Bank, where 16 cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) were confirmed so far since yesterday.

During an emergency meeting with cabinet ministers, governors and heads of security forces in Ramallah, Shtayyeh ordered a new set of precautionary measures to fight the spread of the epidemic, whose first cases in Palestine were only detected yesterday.

On top of the decisions was the creation of a central operations room that will coordinate with district-based crisis cells, in addition to a follow-up media committee to provide official updates on the crisis on a daily basis, headed by the spokesman of the government.

The prime minister also ordered a cancelation of all hotel reservations for foreign tourists in all of Palestine.

In the meantime, Shtayyeh authorized the ministers and heads of government departments to consider the necessary measures to reduce cross-district movement of civil servants.

In addition, leaves were banned for all civil servants and security forces, especially the employees of the Ministry of Health.
