‫المنتدى العالمي للحد من مخاطر الكوارث: تقدم إندونيسيا مفهوم القدرة المستدامة على الصمود لمواجهة مخاطر الكوارث

المناسبة، أشاد العديد من مسؤولي الأمم المتحدة – عبد الله شهيد، رئيس الدورة 76 للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، وأمينة محمد، نائبة الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، ومامي ميزوتوري، الممثل الخاص للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة للحد من مخاطر الكوارث – إندونيسيا لنجاحها في السيطرة على كوفيد-19، بحيث يمكن عقد منتدى GPDRR لعام 2022 بشكا حضوري في نوسا دوا، بالي.

وصرحت أمينة محمد في حفل الافتتاح: “أود أن أوصل تقدير الأمم المتحدة إلى رئيس إندونيسيا وشعبها لاستضافة المنتدى العالمي للحد من الكوارث الطبيعية لعام 2022”.

وصرحت: “أود أن أهنئ إندونيسيا وأقدرها على الإجراءات التي اتخذتها لمواجهة فيروس كورونا المستجد (كرد فعل) الذي سمح لنا بالاجتماع في هذا المؤتمر هنا حضوريا”.

وفقا لنائب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، فإن جهود إندونيسيا لتطعيم سكانها البالغ تعدادهم 217 مليون نسمة يعد إنجازًا كبيرًا.

وأضافت: “إننا نحيي زعيم إندونيسيا على برنامج اللقاح الخاص به للحفاظ على سلامة الجميع والاستجابة والاستجابة لوباء كوفيد”.

كما أكدت أن إندونيسيا شريك مهم قام بتعليم العالم الكثير حول الحد من مخاطر الكوارث.

صرح ريكاردو مينا في مقابلة خاصة مع أنتارا ANTARA هنا يوم الاثنين (23 ماي/أيار): “إنها (جهود) مهم للغاية، وأعتقد أن هذا هو المكان الذي نعتقد أن إندونيسيا تتصدر فيه فيما يتعلق بالجهود العالمية للحد من مخاطر الكوارث”.

وأشار مينا إلى أن إندونيسيا قدمت رسالة قوية حول أهمية جهود الحد من مخاطر الكوارث من خلال استضافة المنتدى العالمي للحد من مخاطر الكوارث لعام 2022.

وأضاف: “نعتقد أن إندونيسيا تقدم رسالة قوية للغاية من خلال مشاركة واستضافة GPDRR هنا في بالي. نحن ممتنون جدا للحكومة الاندونيسية على ذلك “.

كما سلط مدير UNDRR الضوء على قيادة إندونيسيا في تبني خطة طويلة الأجل للحد من مخاطر الكوارث.

وأشار: “أعتقد أن ما أود تسليط الضوء عليه هو أن إندونيسيا هي واحدة من الدول القليلة في العالم التي تبنت خطة طويلة المدى للحد من مخاطر الكوارث”.

وأضاف: “هذا مهم جدًا في حالة كنت تريد معالجة الأسباب الجذرية حقًا، ولا يمكنك القيام بذلك في غضون عامين أو ثلاثة أو خمسة أعوام. فذلك مستحيل. ونحن ننظر ونرحب بشدة بحقيقة أن إندونيسيا لديها خطة للحد من مخاطر الكوارث التي تتجاوز حتى عام 2040 “.

وتحقيقا لهذه الغاية، شجع مينا البلدان الأخرى على اتباع خطوات إندونيسيا في اعتماد خطط طويلة الأجل للحد من مخاطر الكوارث.

تستضيف إندونيسيا سلسلة من اجتماعات الدورة السابعة للمنتدى العالمي للحد من مخاطر الكوارث ( GP2022 ) في بالي في الفترة الممتدة من 23 إلى 28 ماي/أيار 2022.

Weather: Hot to very hot conditions

Weather today in Palestine is hot to very hot and dry with no change in temperature, remaining 7°C above the seasonal average, according to the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Winds are northwesterly and light to moderate, while sea waves are low.

Temperature in the capital, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 32°C and a low of 20°C, and in Ramallah and Hebron a high of 31°C and a low of 19°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea, and the Jordan Valley temperature is expected to reach a high of 41°C and a low of 25°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 31°C and a low of 21°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

However, temperature slightly drops on Tuesday but remains 5°C above the seasonal average, said the PMD.

Temperature drops further on Wednesday approaching 3°C above the seasonal average.

Thursday’s temperature drops again, becoming around its annual average.

PMD warned against direct exposure to the sun especially during peak hours from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and setting fire to dry grassy areas.

Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight state-sanctioned Israeli hooliganism in occupied East Jerusalem

The so-called flags march and the hooliganism that accompanied it by thousands of right-wing Israelis targeting Palestinian citizens of occupied East Jerusalem were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

The papers – al-Quds, al-Ayyam, and al-Hayat al-Jadida – printed pictures of the Israeli police brutally attacking Palestinians in the city as flag-waving Israelis held their provocative march through the old city.

The papers published Palestinian, Arab and international reactions to the provocative and violent Israeli behavior in Jerusalem and at the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque.

They also said Palestinians in the West Bank also held demonstrations and clashed with Israeli soldiers at contact points in solidarity with occupied Jerusalem and in protest against the Israeli brutal behavior against the Palestinians in the holy city.

Al-Quds daily said over 200 Palestinians were injured from army live bullets, rubber bullets, or tear gas during these clashes.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh telling the Israeli premier that Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state, and Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh also stressing that occupied Jerusalem is the Palestinian capital.

Al-Ayyam said an Israeli law is being discussed that bans raising the Palestinian flag in Israeli universities in light of the Nakba commemoration rally that took place at Ben Gurion University in the Naqab desert where Palestinian flags were raised.

Israeli settlers continue their provocative flag-waving marches in the occupied territories

Hundreds of Israeli settlers today held provocative marches, waving the Israeli flag, at major West Bank intersections, according to witnesses.

In the north of the West Bank, flag-waving settlers from the illegal Itamar settlement gathered, under heavy army protection, near a military checkpoint in the town of Hawwara, south of Nablus, interrupting traffic and provoking the Palestinians.

WAFA correspondent said settlers were also seen on the main road linking Nablus to Jenin.

Settlers also attacked Urif high school in the village of Urif, south of Nablus.

The school principal, Ayed al-Qit, told WAFA that settlers, protected by soldiers, throw rocks at the school damaging solar panels as soldiers also fired tear gas canisters at it causing many suffocation cases.

The students were quickly evacuated from the school with the start of the attacks, he said.

In the south of the West Bank, settlers from Kiryat Arba settlement walked through Palestinian neighborhoods in the Israeli army-controlled section of the city of Hebron, waving Israeli flags and provoking the local population.

The events came a day after tens of thousands of extremist Israelis marched through the streets of occupied East Jerusalem, attacking Palestinians and their properties, and beating journalists without the Israeli police, who were present in large numbers, doing anything to stop them.

Two Palestinian-owned homes in Masafer Yatta receive Israeli demolition orders

Two Palestinian residents of Masafer Yatta in the south of the West Bank today received demolition orders against their homes, according to Fouad al-Imour, a local activist.

He said one 140-square meter home is located in Umm Qassa hamlet, while the other is 80 square meters and is located in Khashm al-Daraj hamlet.

The Israeli army claimed the homes were built without a permit, which is impossible to get in Area C of the occupied West Bank and which is under full Israeli military control.

Israel is planning to destroy at least 12 hamlets in Masafer Yatta and displace more than 1000 of their Palestinian residents after the Israeli High Court gave the army the go-ahead with the demolition earlier this month.

A water well that benefitted hundreds of Palestinian farmers in a West Bank village destroyed by Israel

A water well in the village of Ras Atiyeh, south of the northern West Bank city of Qalqilya, which has been benefiting hundreds of Palestinian farmers was today destroyed by the Israeli occupation forces, according to a local resident.

Mazouz Marabeh, a resident of Ras Atiyeh, told WAFA that soldiers broke into the western part of the village, destroyed the well and seized all equipment used to draw water from the well.

He said that by destroying the well, owned and operated by Ras Atiyeh Agricultural Cooperative, Israel has denied 400 farmers from benefiting from its water which they used to irrigate 4000 dunums of their agricultural lands.

Marabeh said Israel destroyed the well to prevent all these farmers from benefiting from its water.

China: Absence of two-state solution reason for conflicts between Palestine, Israel

China said today that the underlying reason for the recurring conflicts between Israel and Palestine is the absence of the implementation of the two-state solution and the long denial of the Palestinian people’s legitimate appeal for establishing an independent state.

The international community should have a greater sense of urgency and work for the early resumption of peace talks between Palestine and Israel on the basis of the two-state solution, so as to achieve the comprehensive, just and lasting resolution of the Palestine question at an early date, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Zhao Lijian, said during the ministry’s regular press conference.

Zhao stressed that China is deeply concerned over the ongoing tension between Palestine and Israel, particularly in Jerusalem.

He noted that parties concerned should act in accordance with relevant UN resolutions, respect and maintain the historical status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem, and avoid taking any unilateral and provocative actions that change the historical status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem.
