This milestone report highlights the initiative’s outcomes, impact, and collective learnings between 2017 and 2022 and serves as a retrospective, a showcase for the initiative’s success stories and challenges, and a much-needed vision for the future.

Michael Fredrich, Lead Access to Medicine Non-Communicable Diseases at Bayer Pharmaceuticals and Chair of the Access Accelerated Board, commented, “With the 2030 deadline for the UN Sustainable Development Goals approaching fast, which include Universal Health Coverage, it’s more important than ever that we make the most out of our resources and approach this fight strategically. This report gives us the opportunity to critically evaluate our past and use key learnings for the future. It is essential that we share insights and learn from our collective efforts. Much work lies ahead, but this report serves as a valuable foundation for effectively addressing NCDs.”

This initiative’s impact has already been felt widely. Access Accelerated and its strategic partners – the City Cancer Challenge Foundation, NCD Alliance, PATH, the World Bank and the World Heart Federation – have helped improve access to NCD screening, diagnosis, and treatment around the world, reaching over 700 million people through 54 partner projects in 37 countries and catalyzing $US1.6 billion in investment in 2022 alone. By the end of phase 2 (2020-2022), this number totalled $US3.7 billion. In the same period, Access Accelerated partner projects contributed to policy change in 35 countries and 13 projects were scaled to national level, moving away from pilot phase to locally embedded projects.

Six years since its founding, the initiative has accumulated a wealth of hard-won knowledge and experience. The report highlights those learnings, including the crucial role of open, transparent communication in measuring intangible impact of partnerships, the ways flexible long-term funding can open the way for locally embedded solutions, and why community- and patient-centric approaches are essential to sustainability. By capturing impacts beyond hard numbers, the report demonstrates the importance of local engagement, trust, and social capital in improving NCD outcomes over time.

According to Dr. Juan Pablo Uribe, World Bank’s Global Director for Health, Nutrition & Population and Director of the Global Financing Facility, the report demonstrates the importance of rigorous monitoring and reporting. “Learning from our successes and challenges is absolutely necessary if we are going to shape more efficient and effective initiatives that can respond to the growing NCD burden on countries around the world. That’s why we’re excited to have the insights offered by this report to inform future initiatives and are grateful to the partnership with Access Accelerated which has led to meaningful action in creating sustainable change.”

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) has completed all preparations for the start of the end-of-semester exams “first round” for the General and Specialized Secondary Certificates for the academic year 2022/2023, which will start on Sunday, May 28, 2023, and will continue until June 7, 2023.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency , Assistant Undersecretary for Evaluation Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) Khaled Abdullah Al Harqan said that 13497 students will take the General Secondary Examinations this year, distributed among 77 exam centers in schools, explaining that the early preparations and arrangements taken by the Ministry in this context aimed for male and female students to perform their exams in a comfortable and reassuring environment and atmosphere that would contribute to their obtaining the highest grades and averages.

He stated that these early preparations included the completion of setting exam questions for the general secondary certificate in its various tracks, in a balanced manner, by specialized teams formed for this purpose from the education and evaluation sectors of the Ministry, as well as completing the printing and packaging of the questions, so that it will be ready for the start of the exams next Sunday morning, stressing that the MOEHE attaches great importance to the safety and confidentiality of the General Secondary Certificate exams, their strength and efficiency and the interest of the student. In this context, he referred to the full coordination with the Ministry of Interior in the issue of transferring exams to remote schools in the outer regions in the north and south and the Dukhan region.

Al Harqan pointed out that all exam questions for each subject are sent to schools early on the morning of the exam itself, and are delivered in coordination with the schools, in addition, there are controls for opening question boxes and envelopes inside schools at a specific time within the responsibilities of school administrations under the supervision of representatives and specialists of the evaluation sector.

With regard to the committees charged with correcting test questions and evaluating grades, Assistant Undersecretary for Evaluation Affairs at the MOEHE told QNA that the selection of teachers assigned to this task has been completed, bearing in mind that the correction process takes place in the evening period on the day of the test itself within the committees designated for this purpose. He added that regarding the organizational matters related to exams, school committees were formed, and they are responsible for the process of supervising and monitoring exams in schools.

Al Harqan also pointed out that the rotation and exchange of observers between schools are among the exam controls to ensure their performance in the utmost transparency and impartiality and to avoid any fears or doubts about them, pointing out that what is new with regard to the General Secondary Certificate Examinations for the academic year (2022/2023) is the amendments introduced by the Ministry to the evaluation policy in order to provide support and assistance to low-performing students in order to limit their academic failure, and thus enable them to continue their educational path.

Assistant Undersecretary for Evaluation Affairs urged school administrations to explain the various controls and procedures related to the proper conduct of exams to students and work to provide the appropriate environment for them to perform their exams with ease and comfort and in an atmosphere that motivates them to succeed and excel.

He also advised parents to help their children study and provide everything needed at home to get the highest scores and stand by them during the exam period, and the students to work hard.

Khaled Abdullah Al Harqan advised the students to avoid any summaries of study materials that are sold in libraries or other school summaries, and to focus instead on the textbook, the approved curriculum, and the extensive explanation provided by the teacher. He also stressed on the need to commit not to bring mobile phones, electronic watches, and any other wired or wireless electronic devices inside the examination committees. (MORE)

Jordan’s industrial exports attain global significance, affirms JEA official

In celebration of Independence Day, Ahmad Khudari, the head of the Jordanian Exporters Association (JEA), highlighted the remarkable achievements of Jordan’s industrial exports, emphasizing their quality and competitiveness in global markets.

In a statement on Wednesday, Khudari underscored the substantial growth of Jordan’s industrial exports, which escalated from JD500 million in the late 20th century to over JD7 billion today, playing a pivotal role in the expansion and development of the country’s industry.

Khudari attributed the international success of Jordanian industrial exports to the nation’s hard-earned independence, attained through the sacrifices of its leadership and devoted citizens. He praised the industry sector, one of the oldest in the region, which employs nearly a quarter of a million people, predominantly Jordanians, and has now achieved international recognition. The diligent workforce produces goods that reach consumers in 144 countries worldwide.

Highlighting Jordan’s significant economic ties with numerous nations, Khudari pointed out its membership in the World Trade Organization and free trade agreements with the United States, Canada, the European Union, and the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA). Additionally, he mentioned the existence of bilateral agreements with various countries, further contributing to Jordan’s economic growth.

Khudari emphasized that Jordanian exports play a vital role in increasing output, generating employment opportunities for Jordanians, bolstering foreign exchange reserves, and attracting new investors.

He stressed the importance of both the private and public sectors fulfilling His Majesty the King’s economic vision, particularly in implementing the Economic Modernization Vision. This comprehensive initiative supports economic sectors and is crucial for achieving overall development goals, boosting exports, attracting investments, and creating jobs.

The head of JEA highlighted the presence of numerous high-value industries in Jordan, including food, pharmaceuticals, knitwear, chemicals, engineering, mining, agriculture, food security, and logistics services. He also underscored the significance of enhancing the capacities of Jordanian industrial companies through scientific research and innovation to foster product development and global competitiveness.

Additionally, Khudari emphasized the importance of maximizing local resources to establish value-added industries that contribute to the national economy and expand market presence in the American and European markets.

With Jordanian industrial exports accounting for 90% of the Kingdom’s total exports and the sector representing a quarter of the GDP, Khudari called for a reconsideration of fuel prices and freight charges to reduce operating costs and increase the share of Jordanian products in the domestic market.

To sustain the growth of national exports, he stressed the need to explore new marketing channels, introduce export incentive programs, support participation in international exhibitions to promote domestic industry, and strengthen economic ties with friendly nations.

Capital experiences major mass march on anniversary of al-Sarkha

The capital Sana’a witnessed on Wednesday morning in Bab al-Yemen Square a major mass march to commemorate the anniversary of al-Sarkah in the face of the arrogant.

The crowds chanted the slogan of freedom, pride, and disavowal of the nation’s enemies, confronting the forces of evil and global arrogance, and rejecting the US and Zionist hegemony and tutelage in Yemen and the region.

They emphasized that al-Sarkha launched by the martyr, Commander Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi, revived the spirit of jihad, pride, and courage in the nation, and became a symbol of freedom and a slogan for the free, as a weapon and position that terrorizes the countries of tyranny and arrogance.

They raised slogans emphasizing adherence to the Qur’anic project and following the path of the martyr leader in confronting the plots and plans of the enemies of the Arab and Islamic nation and their agents, and rejecting tutelage and hegemony.

The crowds pointed out that every free man must shout the slogan to embody his position rejecting the US and Zionist policies that seek to dominate people, plunder their wealth and violate their sovereignty, especially the Arab and Islamic countries.

They affirmed the continued steadfastness of the Yemeni people, the consolidation of the Qur’anic culture and faith identity, and the promotion of awareness of the US and Zionist colonial projects, as well as the boycott of the US and Zionist goods.

The crowds explained the importance of commemorating al-Sarkha in the face of tyrants and the arrogant, and thwarting their criminal plans targeting Yemen, land and people, and strengthening alignment and efforts to defend the country, its freedom and independence until victory is achieved.

Advisor of the Supreme Political Council Mohammed Meftah confirmed that the martyr leader raised a al-Sarkha in the face of the arrogant powers at a time when the largest countries and strongest regimes submitted to the US hegemony, which sought to blackmail the world under the name of terrorism and fabricated criminal incidents and used them for blackmail.

Meftah pointed out that between the beginning of al-Sarkha in the face of the arrogant and the stage in which we live today, great transformations took place at all levels in favor of the Qur’anic project, indicating that at the national level those who chanted al-Sarkha were persecuted while they were a small group and in limited places and with determination, persistence, trust in God, certainty of victory and readiness for sacrifice. Today al-Sarkha is going around the world.

Meftah explained that the Yemeni people carry the banner of confronting American tyranny, ahead of all peoples and a spearhead in this confrontation, and they possess strength, ability, awareness and determination, which makes them live in a real state of victory and in the face of an unprecedented historical victory.

The advisor pointed out that the US administration was involved in pushing its tools in the region to directly attack Yemen, and formed an aggressive and criminal alliance that waged a comprehensive war of extermination over the past nine years, and inflicted a military, moral and political defeat on its hegemony and all its tools.

He mentioned that the system of employment, dependency and dependence – the Saudi regime – executes citizens in the eastern region of the Arabian Peninsula on charges that it cannot show, including raising al-Sarkha and soon the client Saudi regime affiliated with the American administration and global Zionism will find itself besieged by this great al-Sarkha.

Meftah stressed that al-Sarkha is no longer the monopoly of one current, but rather has become a slogan for all free people in the face of American tyranny, pointing out that al-Sarkha is an introduction to culture, awareness and mobilization to boycott the uS and Zionist goods, and to confront the current of global decadence and corruption.

Water Ministry holds workshop over UNICEF, Geneva team’s results visit to Yemen

A workshop was held in the capital Sana’a to present the results of the UNICEF team’s visit from the main office in New York and Geneva to Yemen, organized by the Ministry of Water and Environment in partnership with UNICEF.

The workshop reviewed the results of the team’s visit to Yemen, which focused on reviewing the humanitarian action plan in Yemen, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations to move forward in improving water and sanitation services.

Deputy Minister of Water and Environment Haneen al-Duraib renewed his welcome to the UNICEF team from the main office in New York on his visit to Yemen as well as partners from various organizations, appreciating UNICEF’s role and contribution to alleviating the suffering of children, women and the elderly in Yemen.

Al-Duraib considered the holding of the workshop the culmination of the outputs of the UNICEF team’s visit from the main office, expressing the hope that this visit would be crowned with success and convey the concerns of the Yemeni people, the Ministry of Water and Environment and its affiliates to where they should be from the concerned authorities.

He explained that many issues were discussed with the UNICEF team, focusing on the suffering of the community as a result of the interruption of diesel, the deterioration of service in water delivery, and the suspension of some institutions as a result of their inability to purchase diesel due to its high prices, the weak ability of the citizen to pay the water bill, and the futility of raising the tariff.

Al-Duraib stressed that the continuation of the situation as it is, will lead to an environmental disaster, stressing the need to expedite the implementation of what has been planned for solar energy and start experimenting with wind energy in rural and urban areas, which calls for speedy the implementation procedures.

He pointed out that the sewage situation was discussed at the level of local institutions, as well as the level of severity of treatment in Bani al-Harith in the capital Sana’a and the seriousness of its continuation as it is, referring to the study of the problem of ground and surface water pollution in some secondary cities as a result of sewage. This calls for intervention to address it, as it is among the list of priorities of the Ministry of Water and Environment.

He touched on the deterioration of water basins in the Republic, which were studied with the UNICEF team, explaining that the depths of water basins in the capital Sana’a and Bayda provinces ranged from 850 meters to 1,000 meters, and the recharge rate is a small number of what is used of water, which requires rapid intervention to make caravans, barriers and tanks.

The Deputy Minister urged the UNICEF team to redouble efforts and keep pace with the need to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, hoping that the workshop would yield meaningful outputs that serve the public interest, appreciating the efforts of the workshop preparation team from the Ministry of Water and UNICEF.

It touched on the solutions and treatments that the team came up with during its visit, and set points of agreement with those concerned in implementing projects to provide water, reach the needy, and make the necessary response in Yemen.

For his part, the Deputy Coordinator of the WASH Cluster at the head office in Geneva explained that UNICEF’s role is based on monitoring and supporting efforts to provide water and sanitation services in 30 countries, including Yemen.
