UK voices deep worry over Israel’s methods in West Bank

LONDON: The United Kingdom (UK) today voiced deep worry over the methods employed by Israel, the occupying power, in the occupied West Bank.

Commenting on the Israeli military incursions into the northern West Bank, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: ‘we are deeply worried by the methods Israel has employed and by reports of civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure.’

‘The risk of instability is serious and the need for de-escalation urgent. We continue to call on Israeli authorities to exercise restraint ]and[ adhere to international law,’ the Office added.

It affirmed that the UK ‘strongly condemns settler violence and inciteful remarks such as those made by Israel’s National Security Minister Ben-Gvir, which threaten the status-quo of the Holy Sites in Jerusalem.’

‘It is in no one’s interest for further conflict and instability to spread in the West Bank,’ it concluded.

Health: Polio vaccination campaign to begin in Gaza Strip the day after tomorrow, Sunday

Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan announced on Friday that the polio vaccination campaign in the southern governorates for children under the age of 10 will begin as of Sunday.

Minister Abu Ramadan explained, in a statement, that the vaccination program will be as follows: from Sunday until Wednesday (1-4/9/2024) in Deir al-Balah Governorate, from Thursday until next Sunday (5-8/9/2024) in Khan Yunis Governorate, and from Monday until Thursday (9-12/9/2024) in Gaza and the North Governorate.

The Minister of Health confirmed that cold chain equipment will be transferred from one region to another according to the vaccination program in each governorate.

He stressed that the Ministry of Health is leading the vaccination campaign in the southern governorates of Palestine in cooperation with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and UNRWA, confirming that the vaccine is completely safe.

Israeli forces kill Palestinian, injure another in Jenin

JENIN: Israeli occupation forces Friday evening killed a Palestinian and injured another in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

It said that its crews evacuated a slain Palestinian from the eastern neighborhood of the city to a hospital.

The fatality was identified by WAFA correspondent as Tawfiq Ahmad Younes Qandil, 82.

PRCS added that the occupation forces opened fire towards the ambulance that transported the fatality besides a casualty from the neighborhood.

The Israeli occupation aggression on the northern West Bank has resulted in the killing of 21 Palestinians; 12 residents of the Jenin governorate, five others from the Tulkarm governorate and four others from the Tubas governorate.

This brings the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli occupation forces and colonists since the October 7, 2023 in the occupied West Bank to 673.

Palestinian Martyred, Others Injured by Israeli Occupation Forces in West Bank

A Palestinian was martyred and others were injured Friday by Israeli occupation forces in a number of areas in the West Bank.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said in a statement that its crews had recovered a martyr from the eastern neighborhood of Jenin, noting that ambulances were exposed to Israeli forces’ fire while transporting the martyr, as three of its medical crew were injured.

Two Palestinians were also injured by Israeli forces’ fire after being shot north of Ramallah, while a group of journalists were targeted during their field coverage near “Al-Zaid Roundabout” in Jenin.

The Israeli aggression on the northern West Bank has so far resulted in the martyrdom of 21 Palestinians, including 12 in Jenin Governorate, five in Tulkarm, and four in Tubas, raising the death toll in the West Bank since October 7 to 673.

Israeli forces erect checkpoint in Bethlehem-governorate village

BETHLEHEM: Israeli occupation forces Friday evening erected a checkpoint in the Husan village, west of the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem, according to local sources.

They said that the occupation forces set up a checkpoint in the downtown part of the village, stopping villagers’ vehicles and inspecting their identity cards.

Israel severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of over 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.

Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 57-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.

Jordanian, Iranian Foreign Ministers Discuss Developments in Gaza, West Bank by Phone

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al Safadi discussed, in a phone call Friday, with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi, the regional situation, the efforts made to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank and the Middle East region.

Safadi stressed, during the call, that stopping the Israeli aggression on Gaza is the first step towards reducing the dangerous escalation in the region, and protecting it from slipping into a comprehensive regional war.
