Seoul Criticizes Pyongyang after Public Disclosure of Its Uranium Enrichment Facility

South Korea has strongly condemned North Korea for publicizing its uranium enrichment facility, calling the illegal development of nuclear weapons a clear violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions.

“Any nuclear threat or provocation by North Korea will be met with an overwhelming and strong response from our government and military, based on the solid extended deterrence of the South Korea-US alliance,” South Korea’s Unification Ministry said.

The unification ministry has cautioned North Korea against proceeding with any nuclear tests but warned of unprecedented sanctions if it defies international warnings.

North Korea has for the first time offered a glimpse into a uranium enrichment facility which produces material for its nuclear weapons.

Photographs showed its leader Kim Jong Un, who had earlier vowed to “exponentially” increase the country’s stash of nuclear weapons, inspecting the area.

WHO: 25% of Gazas Wounded Have Life-Changing Injuries

At least a quarter of people who have been injured in the Gaza Strip since the Israeli war broke out last year have “life-changing injuries,” according to new data from the World Health Organization (WHO).

That total – 22,500 people as of late July, and likely closer to 24,000 today, officials said – is mostly made up of people whose limbs were amputated or otherwise severely injured. But some also have spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and major burn injuries.

The WHO considers the injuries to be life-changing if people continue to need rehabilitation services in the long term.

“The huge surge in rehabilitation needs occurs in parallel with the ongoing decimation of the health system,” Rik Peeperkorn, the WHOs representative for the Palestinian territories, said in a statement.

Pointing to a fresh analysis of the types of injuries resulting from the conflict, the UN health agency said “many thousands of women and children” figured among those badly injured and that many had suffered more t
han one injury.

It estimated there had overall been between 13,455 and 17,550 “severe limb injuries”, which it said were the main driver of the need for rehabilitation.

The report also showed that between 3,105 and 4,050 limb amputations had occurred.

At the same time, WHO said only 17 of Gazas 36 hospitals are currently even partially functional, while primary health care services are frequently suspended or inaccessible due to insecurity, attacks and repeated evacuation orders.

N. Korea Reveals Uranium Enrichment Facility for First Time

North Korea released images of its uranium enrichment facility for the first time on Friday.

According to official Korean Central News Agency, leader Kim Jong Un toured the Nuclear Weapons Institute and the “production base of weapon-grade nuclear materials,” without giving the location of the facility or the date of the visit.

Kim “stressed the need to further augment the number of centrifuges in order to exponentially increase the nuclear weapons for self-defense,” state media reported.

Kim “acquainted himself with the production of nuclear warheads and current nuclear materials,” the report said.

The North Korean leader was briefed about the facility “dynamically producing nuclear materials by studying, developing and introducing all the system elements including centrifugal separators,” KCNA said.

This is the Norths first disclosure of a uranium-enrichment facility.
