Qatar’s Ambassador to EU Participates in Workshop on Palestinian Recovery

HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, participated in the comprehensive workshop on “Palestinian Recovery and Resilience” organized by the European Commission.

The workshop was chaired on the European side by HE Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission Jan Koopman and on the Palestinian side by HE Palestinian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wael Zakout with the participation of representatives of the EU Member States, the G7 and Arab States, in addition to the European Investment Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

During the workshop, they discussed the Palestinian Authority’s reform matrix, joint efforts to address financial challenges, and paving the way for a long-term plan for recovery and resilience. q

Russia, China’s Navy Conduct Joint Drills in Sea of Japan

Russian and Chinese warships conducted missile and artillery firing drills in the Sea of Japan as part of ongoing joint exercises Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

More than 15 Russian warships participated in the episode of the exercise, Russian News Sputnik reported the ministry statement.

“The actions of the naval forces were supported by more than 10 aircraft and helicopters of the Naval Aviation of the Pacific Fleet and the Russian Aerospace Forces. The destroyers Xining and Wuxi, as well as the frigate Lin Yi, participated from the Chinese side,” the statement added.

On Tuesday the formations and associations of the Russian Navy began the Ocean 2024 strategic command and staff exercises, which will last until September 16.

The maneuvers in the waters of the Pacific and Arctic Oceans and the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic Seas involve more than 400 ships, submarines and auxiliary fleet support vessels.

Over 120 aircraft and helicopters of the naval aviation contingent of the Navy and Rus
sia’s Aerospace Forces are also taking part, making use of 7,000 units of weapons and military and special equipment as well as more than 90,000 personnel.

Reviving the legacy of Samih al-Qasim through an art exhibition in Rama

Ramah – Ma’an – On Saturday, September 14, 2024, a distinguished art exhibition was held in the town of Ramah, specifically in the Arishah Restaurant near the shrine of the poet Samih al-Qasim, under the title “In the Presence of al-Qasim: Your Brush Speaks His Words”, organized jointly by the Tanweer Foundation and the Samih al-Qasim Foundation, on the tenth anniversary of the passing of the great poet.

The exhibition witnessed wide participation from artists from the 1948 territories, in addition to artists from different parts of Palestine and the world. More than 70 artworks were displayed, ranging from portraits inspired by Samih al-Qasim’s personality and works, to paintings that embodied his revolutionary sayings and poems, in addition to surreal, abstract and heritage paintings that express the Palestinian identity.

The exhibition dealt with humanitarian and national themes that the poet addressed in his writings, such as Palestinian identity, love for one’s homeland, and adherence to the right desp
ite suffering. Each painting is a visual translation of his immortal sayings, whether through color, shape, or artistic abstraction that reflects the pain and hopes of his people.

The artist Maria Maraab and her band participated in presenting artistic segments that included committed songs and songs with lyrics by Samih Al-Qasim, which added an atmosphere of spirituality and beauty to the exhibition. These segments were integrated with the artistic works to express the poet’s creativity through various artistic media, in addition to a book exhibition.

The exhibition was well received by the public from all regions, as it was an opportunity for communication between artists and the public, and to enhance the spirit of unity and resilience embodied in Al Qassim’s works.

The director of Tanweer Foundation, artist Suhad Kabha, and the director of Samih al-Qasim Foundation and the poet’s son, Watan al-Qasim, expressed their happiness with the success of this artistic event, noting that the exhibition reflects
the extent to which Samih al-Qasim’s cultural legacy continues across generations, and emphasizes the important role that art plays in strengthening Palestinian identity and expressing its pressing issues.

The event was held in a charming atmosphere in the courtyard of Al-Areesha Restaurant on the slopes of Mount Rama, a picturesque area overlooking wonderful natural scenes in the Galilee from Acre and Haifa to Tiberias and the mountains of Jordan, which added a special artistic and aesthetic character to the exhibition.

Martyr succumbed to his wounds in Tubas

Tubas – Ma’an – Today, Monday, the young man Saif Mithqal Abu Dawas (27 years old) died of his wounds after the occupation forces bombed a vehicle in the city of Tubas 10 days ago.

On September 5, Dawas was injured when the occupation forces shelled a vehicle in Tubas. He was transferred to Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin. Five young men were martyred in the shelling: Ahmed Fawaz Fayez Abu Dawas (24 years old), Qusay Majdi Abdullah Abdul Razek (26 years old), from Tubas, Muhammad Awad Salem Abu Juma (30 years old) from Al-Far’a, Muhammad Nazmi Abu Zagha ??(23 years old), and Muhammad Zakaria Muhammad Al-Zubaidi (21 years old), the son of prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi from Jenin camp.

The Factions Coordination Committee in Tubas mourned the martyr Dawas, and declared a general strike and mourning today for his soul.

Tubas Governorate was subjected to several successive raids coinciding with the occupation’s aggression on the northern West Bank since Wednesday, August 28, which resulted in the martyrdom of 17 citiz
ens.

MSDF Holds Voluntary Social Work Forum at QU

Doha: The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) launched the voluntary social work forum at Qatar University’s College of Education, as part of MSDF ongoing efforts to enhance voluntary work’s role in social sustainable development and to raise awareness about its significance.

The forum addressed several key topics related to volunteering, including its role in providing the volunteer with leadership skills and a sense of responsibility, improving social skills, and enhancing social intercommunication, as well as developing volunteering initiatives and stimulating their generation by other social actors, for the sake of improving quality of life and addressing social issues.

In this context, Director of the Community Development Department at MSDF Alanoud bint Madhi Al Hajri said that this forum aims to enable all community members to understand their role in serving the community and encourage them to actively participate in volunteering activities. She added that volunteering is not only a mea
ns of providing a helping hand but also is a tool for individual development and building a more cohesive and cooperative society.

Al Hajri explained that the forum will provide participants with opportunities to learn about best practices in volunteering and community involvement, as well as motivate students to engage in various volunteering activities that enhance cooperation and community participation.

She affirmed that MSDF will continue its efforts to organize similar events that encourage a spirit of cooperation and community partnership, especially among the youth, who are the foundation of sustainable development.

For her part, director of the leadership and community services department at Qatar University Fatima Al Emadi said that this forum will raise community awareness and encourage university students to engage in voluntary work, to promote a culture of volunteering as a driving force for positive change in society.

She added that this forum represents a unique opportunity to share ideas a
nd exchange experiences that contribute to developing and deepening the concept of volunteering among individuals and institutions. Al Emadi emphasized that volunteering is not just a noble human act but a fundamental pillar in building advanced societies and an effective means of achieving sustainable development.

Qatar Participates in 59th Meeting of GCC Technical Committee for Retirement and Social Insurance Agencies

Represented by the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority (GRSIA), the State of Qatar is participating in the 59th meeting of the Technical Committee for Retirement and Social Insurance Agencies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which kicked off Monday and runs for three days in Manama, Bahrain.

Director of Customer Management at GRSIA Ali Al Kuwari leads Qatar’s delegation.

The meeting aims to enhance cooperation between the GCC countries in the fields of civil retirement and social insurance. Its agenda includes several important topics, such as governance of the work of the technical committee and updating the unified system for extending insurance protection between member states. It also addresses several initiatives, especially the initiative to update a comparative study of civil retirement and social insurance systems and the initiative to electronically link civil retirement and social insurance agencies, which aims to facilitate the exchange of information between member
states and enhance technical cooperation. It also includes training and qualification initiatives, the unified annual awareness campaign, and international cooperation initiatives.

The meeting will discuss statistical indicators and the development of collection mechanisms to target employees in the unified system.

In the context of stimulating scientific research and innovation in this field, the Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Funds Research Award will be addressed, in addition to honoring leading figures in the field of retirement and social insurance.

The meeting will also discuss several issues related to data on disbursements for pensioners and their beneficiaries, work injuries, and occupational diseases, in addition to other topics raised by member states.

GRSIA’s participation in the meeting emphasizes the State of Qatar’s commitment to enhancing Gulf cooperation in the field of civil retirement and social insurance and interacting with initiatives that contribute to developing this vital s
ector in a way that serves Gulf citizens alike.

British Museum Reading Room.. iconic sanctuary for scholars, writers

The Reading Room in the British Museum is one of its iconic spaces, historically renowned as a place of study and intellectual exploration.

Opened in 1857, the circular domed structure was designed by architect Sydney Smirke and became a sanctuary for scholars, writers and researchers.

Its impressive dome with a diameter of 140 feet, was one the largest in the globe at the time of its construction, allowing natural light to flood the interior.

Over the years, the Reading Room attracted many notable figures, including Karl Marx, Virginia Wolf and George Bernard Shaw.
