Martyrs’ Families Care Authority condemns YouTube’s closure of Authority’s channel

The General Authority of Care the Families of Martyrs expressed its condemnation of the arbitrary action represented by YouTube closing the Authority’s channel.

In a statement, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Authority considered the closure of the Authority’s channel by “YouTube” as a flagrant violation of the rights and freedom of expression of opinions and ideas.

It pointed out that the channel is dedicated to disseminating information and news related to the martyrs and their families, stressing the continuation of work to immortalize the exploits of the martyrs and consolidate the culture of martyrdom through other available means.

The authority pointed out that YouTube’s arbitrary steps will not deter it from carrying out its duty, regardless of the difficulties and challenges.

Highfield Princess Lands King George Qatar Stakes at Qatar Goodwood Festival

The curtain will fall on Saturday, 5th August on the 2023 renewal of Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC)-sponsored Qatar Goodwood Festival. The race meetings of the five-day annual Festival continued over four days before it will reach its finale on Saturday. This year’s edition has had special importance with the huge turnout of spectators at Goodwood, indicating the keenness to be part of the racing extravaganza, being a racing landmark in the UK and Europe.

On Friday, 4th August, the fourth and penultimate day of the Festival had an eight-race card day. The feature and fifth race was the Gr2 King George Qatar Stakes. The 1,000M sprint for three-year-olds and older is a veritable test of raw speed and has been a key feature of the Qatar sponsored Goodwood Festival since 1911.

The winner of the 2023 renewal was Trainers House Enterprises-owned Highfield Princess (Night of Thunder x Pure Illusion) for trainer John Quinn and jockey Jason Hart. Saad Ali Al Kharji, Deputy Chairperson of Qatar Tourism, crowned the winners after the race.

Earlier on the day, the Paul J Dixon and John Fox-owned and Scott Dixon-trained Fosroc was partnered by Annabelle Hadden-Wight to win the Markel Magnolia Cup. Fahad Al Sulaiti, CEO of Education Above All (EAA), was present during the trophy presentation of the the 1,100m race, which saw a Qatari representation by rider Khadija Abdulwahed who rode Classic Touch to finish third. The 12 runners in the race were sponsored by various organisations and all the riders were females. Wathnan Racing sponsored the running of Classic Touch, who was ridden by Khadija Abdulwahed. EAA sponsored the running of Educate A Child and Protect Education. Al Jeryan Stud sponsored the running of Al Bahar. In addition, Qatar Goodwood Festival sponsored the running of Stormingin.

Triple Gr.1 winner and the apple of her trainer John Quinn’s eye, Highfield Princess (Night Of Thunder) claimed her first victory of 2023 when winning the Gr.2 King George Qatar Stakes.

Speaking after the race, her trainer John Quinn outlined his plans for the future with Highfield Princess. “Her plan will be to go back for the Coolmore Nunthorpe and then maybe onto Ireland for the Flying Five.”, he said, “I have been thinking of Australia, but I’ve gone a bit cool on that, but she may go to the Breeders Cup, she is a great traveller”.

Annabelle Hadden-Wight partnered Fosroc to land the 2023 Magnolia Cup. They were prominent throughout and gamely held off Eliza McCalmont on C.Eliza Doolots.

Since its inception, the Magnolia Cup has raised GBP 2.1 million for various charities. A record GBP 324,000 was raised in 2022, with the sum donated to The Brilliant Breakfast. This year, the Markel Magnolia Cup is supporting Education Above All’s (EEA) Educate A Child programme. All net proceeds will go to a project in Malawi that provides education and support for children most at risk of dropping out of primary education through a joint project between Education Above All and CAMFED.

Qatar’s Khadija Abdulwahed, third on Classic Touch, said: “It was really amazing. That is the first time I have ridden in the Magnolia Cup, I’m so proud that I was a part of this race. I finished third, but I’m happy.” The fifth and final day, Saturday 5th August, of the 2023 renewal of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, will have a seven-racecard. The feature and third race of the day is the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes, a Group 2 for three-year-old and older Thoroughbred fillies and mares over 2,800m.

Google Reportedly Tests Adding Playable Games to YouTube

Technology giant Google is working on a new feature for YouTube that could add interactive games to the video platform.

Called “Playables”, the feature was apparently detailed in an email Google sent to its employees asking them to test it, according to The Verge.

“Games could either be playable via the YouTube app on iOS and Android or through the browser on desktop,” The Verge reported The Wall Street Journal as saying.

“Grace” Exhibition reflects cultural identity, diversity

In the fourt edition of his “Grace” exhibition, the artist Abdullah Al-Zeid showed 35 paintings that dealt with issues of men and women as well as different civilizations, produced in modern and experimental methods.

The exhibition, held at Den Gallery in Crystal Tower, was crowded with visitors who interacted with the portrait paintings with their diversity of expressions and diverse cultures in a panoramic artistic experience.

CCQ’s Female Students Team Wins First Gold Medal in Universities Padel Tournament

The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) female students’ team won the first place in the 1st edition of Universities Padel Tournament.

Held at the University of Doha for Science and Technology, the two-day edition saw the participation of 6 teams, and the CCQ’s team won the tournament’s Gold as the first edition for women in Padel Tournament for universities that adopted by the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF), along with the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF). Minister of Culture congratulates Leader of Revolution

Minister of Culture Abdullah al-Kibsi on Monday sent a cable of congratulations to leader of the revolution Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din Al-Houthi and President of the Supreme Political Council Field Marshal Mahdi al-Mashat on the occasion of the 33rd National Day of the Republic of Yemen, May 22.

The Minister of Culture expressed their warmest congratulations on this national occasion in which the Yemenis achieved their great achievement, which is the re-establishment of Yemeni unity.

Al-Kibsi stressed that the achievement of the Yemeni unity will remain, no matter how wide the area of the conspiracies targeting it as it is rooted as an eternal Yemeni truth, the Yemenis will not give it up, but rather they will preserve it so that it remains evidence of their glory and honor.

He pointed out that there is no fear for the unity as it is firmly established in the minds and hearts of the people of the nation, stressing that the end of mercenaries is to disappear; because the Yemeni unit is too big for a handful of agents to gain from it.

Jordan warns of Israeli restrictions on Christians’ access to Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Jordan on Thursday warned of Israeli restrictions that would limit Christians’ access to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in occupied East Jerusalem, thereby reducing the number of individuals able to partake in the Holy Saturday festivities. In a statement, Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Sinan Majali said all Israeli measures aimed at restricting the right of Christians to free and unrestricted access to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, next Saturday, to perform their religious rituals, are “rejected and condemned.” Majali stressed that Israel, as the occupying power, must respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its sanctities, and stop its restrictive measures against the Christians of occupied Jerusalem, and refrain from any measures that prejudice the freedom of worship in the holy places in the city. Jordan, the official emphasized, based on the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem, will continue, with all possible means, to protect the sanctities and preserve the historical and legal status of Jerusalem to be a key to peace and a symbol of tolerance and harmony.

Jordan welcomes restoration of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Qatar

Jordan has welcomed an announcement by Qatar and Bahrain that they have agreed to restore diplomatic relations which were severed in 2017. The announcement came after a meeting of officials from the two countries at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Saudi Arabia. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stressed the importance of the agreement in enhancing cooperation and solidarity between Arab countries and serving common Arab interests. The official spokesman for the ministry, Ambassador Sinan Majali, said that the return of diplomatic relations between the two countries is a major achievement that would enhance Gulf and Arab solidarity and the ability to face common challenges.

Jordan braces for heavy rain Thursday, followed by warm weekend

Thursday’s weather will continue to be chilly and overcast in the north, central, and eastern regions of the country, with heavy rain possible during the morning hours, along with thunder and hailstorms that may be intense in some areas, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) stated in its daily update. The rainfall could result in flooding in valleys and low-lying places, while winds will be brisk and blowing from the northwest with occasional gusts, causing dust storms in the desert. The weather service issued alerts on foggy highlands, slick roads in rainy areas, flash floods in low-lying places, and low horizontal visibility. It’s probable that dust may also cause a reduction in horizontal visibility in the desert. The forecast for Friday predicts stable weather across the country, with a considerable rise in temperatures and mostly sunny conditions. The Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba will see mild temperatures, while winds will be moderate blowing from the southeast. On Saturday, mercury will increase significantly and end up being around the seasonal average for this time of year. The Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba will see warm spring temperatures, while most of the Kingdom will experience mild spring conditions. Hellenic Film Commission welcomes representatives of Palestine

The Hellenic Film Commission welcomed today representatives of the State of Palestine at the Greek Film Centre in Athens.

Mrs Bothaina Hamdan, General Director of International and Public Relations of the Palestinian Ministry of Culture, accompanied by Mrs Fadwa Abushanab, Third Secretary of the State of Palestine, met with the General Director of the Greek Film Centre, Mrs Athena Kartalou, at the premises of the GFC.

Both sides discussed the possibility of future collaboration in the context of organizing screenings in both Greece and Palestine, the exploration of collaboration and coproduction opportunities, as well as training programs for cinema professionals in Palestine.

Finally, the Palestinian committee was briefed on the Palestinian productions’ filming in Greece, serviced or coproduced by Greek professionals.

In a meeting with Arab ambassadors to Palestine, Foreign Minister urges support in international spheres

In a meeting in Ramallah today with the Arab ambassadors accredited to the State of Palestine, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad al-Malki, urged the Arab states to support Palestine in international spheres.

Malki briefed the Arab ambassadors on the latest political developments in Palestine as well as the racist Israeli policies and daily violations against the Palestinian people and their leadership, reviewing the efforts of the Palestinian leadership, and the political, diplomatic and legal steps in all international forums to increase international rejection of the occupation and settlements.

While appreciating Arab support for Palestinian rights, resilience, and their just cause, the Foreign Minister urged the Arab countries to support the Palestinian leadership in its endeavors at the international level, including persuading European countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to do so as soon as possible, in addition to pushing forward the implementation of the recent General Assembly resolution calling on the International Court of Justice to issue a legal advisory opinion on the nature and form of this long and illegal Israeli colonial occupation.
