RAMALLAH, Palestine, Nov 18 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that, recently declared Israeli tenders for the construction of over 450 housing units, in the illegal settlement of Ramat Shlomo in Jerusalem, are part of a larger plan that targets the construction of thousands of housing units in East Jerusalem. The ministry, in a statement Tuesday, noted that, this Israeli government’s decision, which came only a few days after Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with US President Barack Obama in Washington, reveals the Israeli government’s true intentions, which it stressed, aims at undermining the two-state solution, and resolving the final status issues, unilaterally, through its use of military force. The decision also comes concurrently with “racist” statements, made by head of the council of Karnei Shomoron settlement, in northern West Bank, in which he pledged that, the settler population in the West Bank will reach half a million within five years, the ministry added. Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers, during its weekly cabinet meeting in Ramallah, condemned the Israeli settlement tenders, calling on the world countries, international quartet, and the UN, particularly its Security Council, to not only condemn such acts; since it did not serve as a deterrent to the occupation’s criminal practices and its illegal settlement expansion. The cabinet reiterated its call for the need to take an international decision, that brings an end to the Israeli occupation, to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, and to impose concrete sanctions against the occupations’ leaders; and hold them accountable for their crimes. This came after Israeli media websites said, the Israeli government was planning to issue tenders for the construction of 436 new housing units, in the Jewish settlement of Ramat Shlomo in Jerusalem, which is part of a larger plan to construct 1,000 additional new housing units, in the said settlement.– NNN-WAFA
