The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs said it had submitted a petition to the Israeli central district court in Beersheba to have an autopsy performed on the body of Gazan prisoner Fares Baroud, with the participation of a Palestinian doctor.
In a statement on Thursday, the Commission stressed the need for such procedure in order to know the real cause of his death in an Israeli jail on Wednesday.
The Commission also said that it requested through its lawyer to hand over the body of Baroud immediately after finishing the autopsy and to facilitate his transfer to the Gaza Strip to receive a proper burial.
Prisoner Fares Baroud, 51, was proclaimed dead on Wednesday evening in Ramon jail. He had suffered from health problems and medical neglect and undergone major surgery in an Israeli hospital, according to the Commission.
