Five people have died of coronavirus in Palestine in the last 24 hours as the Ministry of Health confirmed today 401 new cases, while the number of people infected with the Omicron variant has surged to 35, the vast majority of them were citizens returning home after a visit abroad, and the first case was detected in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The Ministry said two deaths were confirmed in the Gaza Strip, where 142 new cases and 121 recoveries were recorded, two deaths in the West Bank, where 239 new cases and 135 recoveries were confirmed, and one death in East Jerusalem along with 20 new cases and 51 recoveries.

It said 105 corona patients are currently getting treatment in hospitals and 53 are critical in intensive care, while 14 are attached to ventilators.

The Ministry also said over 1.5 million people in Palestine have received two coronavirus shots and over 180,000 have received the third booster shot, the vast majority are in the West Bank.
