FM calls on US Administration to fulfill its obligations, protect church property in Jerusalem

The Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry today called on the US Administration to fulfill its obligations and protect church property in Jerusalem.

The Ministry said in a press statement that the Israeli top court’s ruling in favor of settler takeover of two hotels belonging to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem serve as a proof that the Israeli court system and judiciary are an integral part of the occupation system and are complicit in providing legal support to facilitate settler takeover of church and Islamic Waqf property in the city.

It called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, end to the policy of double standards and immediately implement UN resolutions, especially UNSC Resolution 2334.

It also called on the US Administration to fulfill its obligations, most notably the expeditious re-opening of the US Consulate in Jerusalem, as well as the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to quickly provide protection to the Palestinian people and the holy sites.
