GAZA CITY, Feb 13 — Dozens of Palestinian students held a demonstration in Gaza City on Thursday to condemn the recent murder of three American Muslims in North Carolina.

The students, mainly affiliated with the Islamic student body, condemned the crime and what they said was a lack of media attention of the incident in the West.

Speaker of the Islamic student body, Said al-Hatum, said that the protest was a “message of anger and condemnation of an anti-Islam crime of killing a Palestinian Muslim family at a time that the USA is calling against terrorism.”

He added that the international community and human rights groups should condemn the crime, which he said “only shows the ugly face of terrorism.”

Hamas said the reaction of the international community to the killings reflected “political hypocrisy” and “double standards” compared to the reaction following the killing of 12 people at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The victims were identified as Chapel Hill residents Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and her sister Razan Abu-Salha, 19, of Raleigh.

The shooter, identified as Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, was being held in Durham County Jail on three counts of first-degree murder, the Chapel Hill News and Observer newspaper and other news outlets said.
