Israeli army attacks peaceful protest in support of prisoners in Israeli jails

Israeli forces today attacked Palestinians taking part in a peaceful protest held at the northern entrance to al-Bireh city in the central West Bank in support of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, according to local sources.

Sources said Israeli forces attacked protesters with rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas canisters, however, no injuries or arrests were reported.

According to the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission, Israel holds about 4850 Palestinians in its prisons, including 43 women and 225 children. Approximately 540 are held as administrative detainees.
