Jordan, China discuss possibility of establishing joint technical university


Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr.Mamoun M. Al-Debi’e on Tuesday discussed with Commercial Attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Amman, Luo Wenjun, means to revive the idea of ??establishing a Chinese-Jordanian technical university with funding from the Chinese side.

During the meeting, in-kind support was provided in the field of information technology and infrastructure for official Jordanian universities, according to a Ministry of Higher Education statement.

The two officials also discussed establishing two departments in the field of communications engineering and information technology in one of the Kingdom’s public universities.

The statement added that discussions went over ways to strengthen the partnership between the ministry and Jordanian academic institutions with Chinese companies, especially in the technology and innovation areas.

The meeting tackled the importance of developing training and qualification programs for Jordanian students under join
t initiatives, launched by Jordanian universities and Chinese companies, which would enhance the Jordanian side’s technological capabilities to enter local, regional and global labor markets.

The statement noted both sides agreed to continue joint coordination and develop educational and training programs, aimed at enabling Jordanian students to benefit from modern technologies and enhance their capabilities in the innovation and scientific research fields.
