Malta’s president starts official visit to Palestine

RAMALLAH, Thursday, Malta’s President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca started on Thursday an official one-day visit to Palestine.

Upon her arrival in Ramallah, Colerio Preca laid a wreath at the grave of President Yasser Arafat.

She was then given an official reception at the presidential headquarters where President Mahmoud Abbas was waiting for her.

After inspecting the honor guards and meeting delegations from both sides, the two leaders started official talks.

Colerio Preca arrived in Ramallah coming from Bethlehem where she visited the Nativity Church, the birth place of Jesus Christ, and Bethlehem University.

She was welcomed at Bethlehem University campus by Vice Chancellor Brother Peter Bray and Minister of Tourism and Antiques Roula Ma’ayah and Head of the Representative Office of Malta Reuben Gauci.

She toured Bethlehem University’s Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, the Nursing Simulation Center, several faculties in addition to the Chapel of the Divine Child, built in 1908, before proceeding to deliver a lecture entitled Tourism for Peace.

The Maltese President, who arrived to Bethlehem Wednesday evening, was briefed by Ma’ayah about the general situation in Bethlehem, including Israel’s apartheid wall and settlements encircling the city, land grab and other Israeli violations.
