NATO military officials discuss new regional defense plans

NATO’s Military Committee met on Wednesday in Brussels to discuss developing new regional defense plans to tackle threats.

Chair of NATO’s military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer stated that these geographically specific plans describe how “we will defend key and relevant places in our alliance against the threats of Russia and terrorism.” He added that the regional plans require a new NATO force model to produce more troops at high readiness across the alliance, as well as a new force structure to determine the number and types of equipment and organizations needed to conduct NATO operations.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated, “high-intensity warfare is back in Europe, global competition is rising, authoritarian regimes are challenging our values, interests and security,” while climate change and terrorism also remain significant threats.
