RAMALLAH, The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused today on the unprecedented hike in new coronavirus infections across Palestine, with 1486 new cases and 14 deaths registered during the last 24 hours yesterday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam quoted Fathi Abu Warda, advisor to the Palestinian Minister of Health in Gaza, as saying that the besieged Gaza Strip is currently witnessing an unprecedented hike in coronavirus infections.
In its main news story, al-Quds said the Israeli artillery bombed last night an outpost east of the town of Beit Hanoun, north of the Gaza Strip, causing damage to the site but no injuries. The same news was also reported by al-Hayat al-Jadida.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli occupation forces last night assaulted and beat up three Palestinian young men in the village of Beit Fajjar, near Bethlehem city in the occupied West Bank, causing them bruises. The three were moved to hospital.
Al-Ayyam said a Palestinian was injured by gunfire and others suffocated from teargas inhalation during a raid yesterday by the Israeli occupation army on the West Bank city of Jenin.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) warned that the health situation in the Israeli prisons where Palestinian political detainees are held is currently the worst since the beginning of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
Al-Quds said the Israeli Ben Gurion University of the Negev has been offering scholarships to Jewish students who are actively engaged in the regular provocative tours of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam said US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar called on President-elect Joe Biden to reverse Donald Trump’s “deal of the century” plan.
The three dailies said thousands of Israelis took to the streets on Saturday evening for the sixth month demanding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down over long-running corruption charges.
