RAMALLAH, Nov 11 — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its grave concerns regarding the continued incitement by the Israeli government, including by the Israeli Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, against President Mahmoud Abbas.
“The Ministry unequivocally rejects and objects to such incitement, which it considers to be a clear threat against the person of President Mahmoud Abbas, whose commitment to peace is absolutely unquestionable, as well as to the prospects for peace,” stated the statement.
It considered these statements to be the official policy of Israel, the occupying Power, and thus demand that the Israeli Government disavow such provocative statements and incitement to violence.
“Indeed, The Ministry voices its concern that these hostile declarations reflect the true intentions of the Israeli Government, which has deliberately obstructed peace efforts and systematically invested in flagrant violations of international law and the continued illegal colonization of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem,” added the statement.
The Ministry ‘believes that such threats must be directly confronted, for they forment hatred and violence toward the Palestinian people and their leadership and exacerbate the already high tensions and deep mistrust between the two sides, leading to a deepening destabilization of the situation.’
The Ministry stressed that the ongoing threats to the prospects of peace are repeatedly manifested in illegal actions and statements made by the Government of Israel and its officials.
The recent crisis in Occupied East Jerusalem brings to the foreground the unanimity of international concern regarding the provocations and incitement by Israel, the occupying Power, and its terrorist settlers at Holy Sites in the City, as well as the illegality of Israeli settlement activities and all other measures including extrajudicial executions and excessive and indiscriminate use of force against Palestinian civilians, stated the statement.
The entire international community agrees on the gravity of the continuation of these illegal actions, with the exception of Israel, the occupying Power, which continue to reaffirm its flagrant disrespect for international law and United Nations resolutions, said the ministry.
“In a brazen display of intransigence and arrogance, Israeli officials mocked the international community and rejected the calls to cease the said illegal measures and provocations, which have caused a considerable spike in tensions and threaten to completely destabilize the situation with far-reaching and grave consequences.
Furthermore, the Israeli officials have chosen to place the blame for the rise in tensions on the Palestinian leadership and in doing so they have threatened President Abbas, it said.
The Ministry called on the international community to exert the necessary efforts at this critical juncture to ensure that international law is respected and that Israel ceases all of its illegal measures and actions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and ceases its hostile incitement and aggression against the Palestinian people and their leadership.
“The international community must not allow a belligerent occupying Power to hold the fate of a region and the prospects for peace hostage to its insatiable appetite for colonization, hegemony and oppression. “
“The Israeli authorities should be obliged to comply with their obligations under international law and the relevant United Nations resolutions. In the absence of this, the Ministry regrets that all of our efforts towards a peaceful settlement in accordance with the two-State solution on the basis of the pre-1967 borders will be totally undermined and undone,” concluded he statement.
