Palestine logs 1,070 COVID cases, seven deaths

Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 1,069 new cases of COVID-19, seven deaths and 2,480 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the last 24-hour reporting period.

In her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic, Alkaila said four deaths from COVID-19 were registered in the Gaza Strip, while another three deaths were reported in the West Bank.

A total of 6,611 COVID-19 tests were conducted during the reporting period. In the Gaza Strip, 569 coronavirus tests came out positive, while the West Bank had 500 new cases.

No update was available regarding the situation in occupied Jerusalem.

The Health Minister said that in the West Bank, 187 patients of COVID-19 are hospitalized, of whom 71 are in intensive care, including 17 on ventilators.

She pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 92.4 percent, while active cases declined to 6.6 percent.

Deaths stood at only one percent of total infections.

Concerning rollout of vaccines, the Health Minister said over 1,362,200 people have received their first jab of the vaccine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, of whom 679,820 have been fully vaccinated.
