Palestine logs 1,600 COVID cases, 18 deaths

Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 1,601 new cases of COVID-19, 18 deaths and 1,952 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the last 24 hours.

In her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic, Alkaila said seven deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the West Bank, while another 11 deaths were registered in the Gaza Strip.

A total of 9,140 COVID-19 tests were conducted during the reporting period. In the Gaza Strip, 745 coronavirus tests came out positive, while the West Bank had 856 new cases.

No update was available regarding the situation in occupied Jerusalem.

The Health Minister said 171 patients of COVID-19 are hospitalized in the West Bank, of whom 73 are in intensive care, including 15 on ventilators.

She pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far declined to 91.2 percent, while active cases rose to 7.8 percent. Deaths stood at only one percent of total infections.

Concerning rollout of vaccines, the Health Minister said over 1,209,500 people have received their first jab of the vaccine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, of whom 500,400 have been fully vaccinated.
