Palestine registers 559 new COVID-19 cases, 12 deaths

RAMALLAH, Friday, May 7, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 559 new COVID-19 infections, 12 deaths and 2148 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the past 24 hours.
In her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic, Alkaila said five deaths were reported in the West Bank and seven others in the Gaza Strip. No deaths were reported in occupied Jerusalem.
In the West Bank, 155 coronavirus tests came out positive, while 404 new cases were registered in the Gaza Strip.
The health minister said 102 patients of coronavirus remain under intensive care, of whom 29 are on ventilators. In addition, 237 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals and COVID-19 dispensaries.
Alkaila pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 94.6 percent, while active cases declined to 4.3 percent. Deaths stood at 1.1 percent of total infections.
Concerning vaccinations, the health minister said over 266,300 people have received their first jab of the vaccine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, of whom 193,700 received both doses of the vaccine.
