Palestine’s urgent response team arrives in Syria and Turkey

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said today that the Palestinian urgent intervention and response team has arrived in Syria and Turkey to help in the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in the aftermath of the tragic earthquake.

The Ministry said 30 members of the team arrived in Turkey, while 43 members of the team arrived in the Syrian Arab Republic via Nassib border crossing with Jordan.

Palestine’s urgent intervention and response team left Ramallah this morning for Turkey and Syria at orders from President Mahmoud Abbas, in order to support local and international relief efforts following the devastating earthquake.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Al-Maliki said in a statement that the State of Palestine was ready in all ways possible to provide a helping hand to Syria and Turkey in this calamity.

He said upon their arrival in the areas affected by the earthquake, the Palestinian urgent response team will be working with other international teams working in field hospitals, and will also participate in rescue and evacuation operations in coordination with the relevant authorities in the two countries.

Supervised by the Palestinian Agency for International Cooperation (PICA), Palestine’s urgent intervention and response team consists of the Palestinian Civil Defense, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, the Ministry of Health, and the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation.
