Palestinian injured earlier in Jericho from Israeli army gunfire has died of his wounds – Health Ministry

A Palestinian who was injured earlier during an Israeli army assault on Aqbat Jabr refugee camp in Jericho has died of his wounds, the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed tonight.

It said it was informed by the Civil Affairs Authority, which liaisons with the Israeli side, that Mahmoud Jamal Hamdan, 22, died of the critical wounds he received earlier during the assault on the refugee camp.

Hamdan was injured and arrested along with five other people from one family including four brothers in their 50s and 40s, and the son of one of them.

Israel imposed a tight closure on the ancient city of Jericho, east of the West Bank, following a shooting attack on a highway outside the city that left one Israeli soldier dead.

The Israeli army claimed Hamdan was involved in the attack.

The refugee camp was last month the scene of another Israeli army assault that ended in the shooting and killing of five Palestinians.

The Israeli army killed or caused the death of 66 Palestinians since the start of the year.
