Palestinian musician Marwan Abado receives the Vienna Golden Medal
Jerusalem – Ma’an – Palestinian musician Marwan Abado was awarded the Golden Order of the Province of Vienna (Austria) in recognition of his services in reviving songs and music that express the feelings of the Palestinian people in the homeland and in the diaspora.
The Golden Order of Merit of the Province of Vienna is considered one of the highest orders granted by the Province of Vienna, the capital of Austria. This order was awarded during this evening, which was held in September, alongside Marwan Abado and the Austrian composer Christian Muthspiel, in recognition of their musical and creative activity, their openness to various musical forms, and their collaboration with generations of musicians of various ages.
The award ceremony was held in the presence of a large crowd of Austrian intellectuals, residents and music lovers in the Rathaus, the People’s Hall in Vienna.
The ceremony was opened by the head of the Culture Department of the Vienna State Government, Veronika Kaup-Hasler, representing the
state governor Michael Ludwig, emphasizing the role of the two musical figures in Vienna and the development of the music scene in the Austrian capital.
Then, the distinguished journalist Albert Hosp from the Austrian official radio gave two speeches about Marwan Abado and Christian Mutschpel, emphasizing the distinction of their musical voices in Austria and mentioning his accompaniment on one of Marwan Abado’s tours to Lebanon, and how Marwan Abado’s songs are known in Lebanon and the Arab world even though he produces in Austria.
