PM Shtayyeh calls on Lithuania to recognize state of Palestine

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called today on Lithuania to recognize the state of Palestine on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.

Shtayyeh made the remarks during his meeting in Ramallah with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis.

During the meeting, Shtayyeh said recognizing the State of Palestine at this time is very important, warning that the two-state solution is fading due to the devastating Israeli measures, the political vacuum and the deteriorating realities on the ground.

“The Palestinian people are paying the price for the chaos in colonial Israel, and the Israeli government is exporting its crises towards us, and today we see a change in the rules of shooting towards our people, and the encouragement of settlers who have become tools of the extremist government to take up arms, which constitute explicit calls for killing,” he said.

Shtayyeh also called for pressure on Israel to release the bodies of Palestinians killed by its army in addition to the urgent release of the sick, women, and children prisoners.

Meanwhile, the prime minister stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations at all levels between Palestine and Lithuania, especially in trade and academic exchange.
