President Abbas discusses current escalations with US president

RAMALLAH, Saturday, May 15, 2021 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas received tonight a phone call from US president Joe Biden, during which they discussed the latest developments and current escalations across the Palestinian territories.
President Abbas urged the US administration to intervene to put a stop to the Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people.
He told Biden that he has made extensive contacts in order to reach a truce in Gaza.
President Abbas stressed during the phone call that security and stability will only be achieved when the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, ends.
Abbas said he is ready to work with the International quartet to achieve peace based on UN resolutions, and with the US administration to enhance bilateral relations and remove all obstacles facing them.
For his part, Biden stressed the importance of achieving calm and de-escalating of violence, noting that the US is making efforts with the concerned parties to achieve this goal.
He stressed the United States’ commitment to the two-state solution, stressing the importance of giving the Palestinian people hope for achieving peace.
Biden also affirmed the US administration’s opposition to unilateral moves, including settlements, and the eviction of Palestinians from their homes in Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, stressing the need to preserve the status quo at al Aqsa Mosque.
