UN official applauds Palestinians’ efforts to cope with Coronavirus

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian Territories Jamie McGoldrick praised efforts and measures taken by the Palestinians to cope with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, stating that ‘what the Palestinians did deserve applause’.

The UN official announced one million dollars of urgent joint financial support from multiple United Nations organizations to provide health aid and technical support to Palestine to help it confront the Coronavirus outbreak.

This came during a video conference between Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh, and members of the UN crisis cell, headed by the Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian Territories Jamie McGoldrick, and in the presence of minister of health, Mai Kaileh.

Shtayyeh called on the UNRWA to engage and contribute to the efforts exerted to fight the outbreak of the Coronavirus in all refugee camps, particularly in the besieged Gaza Strip which has an overwhelming majority of refugees.
