Vandalism of Palestine TV in Gaza focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Saturday, The vandalism of Palestine TV in Gaza and the destruction of its premises and equipment were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Saturday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said in a headline that went across the middle of the front page: Unknown assailants vandalize Palestine TV and Radio headquarters in Gaza. It quoted the head of the official media, Ahmad Assaf, holding Hamas, the de facto power in Gaza, responsible for the vandalism.

Al-Ayyam said more or less the same as al-Hayat al-Jadida in the headline of its front page story on this matter, while al-Quds, which also tackled this subject and made it its main front page story, reported on the wide condemnation for what it described as the crime against the TV station.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that in light of Hamas attacks against Fatah in Gaza, the movement has decided to shut down all offices in the besieged Strip as a precaution. This subject was also reported on the front page of the two other dailies.

Al-Quds said in a front page story from Cairo quoting Hamas sources that the reconciliation file between Fatah and Hamas was not closed and that ousted Fatah member, Mohammad Dahlan, is not an alternative to Fatah in Gaza.

The three papers reported on the weekly Friday protests in Gaza at the border with Israel and in the occupied West Bank and said that people in Jerusalem laid to rest Abdul Rahman Abu Jamal, who was shot dead by Israeli forces two months ago and his body was held since then in an Israeli morgue.

Al-Quds said American legislators are pushing again for a law outlawing boycott of Israel.

It said that in a first step toward building thousands of settlement units by 2025, Israel decided to build 459 new units in the illegal settlement of Maale Adumim, east of Jerusalem.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat Jadida reported on Rashida Tlaib, the first Palestinian American to become a member of the US congress, and printed pictures of her dressed in the traditional Palestinian dress when she was sworn-in and quoted her saying on her first day in office for the impeachment of US President Donald Trump.
