The Ministry of Transport announced Today, Thursday, that the Iraqi Airways General Company had received the first B787-8 plane, known as the Dreamliner, to officially join the fleet of the national carrier.
The Ministry said in a statement: “The General Company for Iraqi Airways, one of the formations of the Ministry of Transport, has received the first batch of a contract for the purchase of ten aircraft of this model B787-8, known as the Dreamliner, which is considered one of the distinguished and exceptional models in the world of aviation.
The Ministry’s statement quoted the company’s Director General, Eng. Manaf Abdel Moneim, as saying: “The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, strongly supports the work to modernize the national carrier’s fleet, with aircraft of solid international origins, stressing that the steps to modernize the company’s fleet are continuing, as four planes have previously joined Boeing MAX model out of sixteen aircraft contracted to be purchased by Iraqi Airways.
He pointed out that the Iraqi crew, consisting of: Chief Engineer of Aircraft Raed Al-Dhahabi, Director of the Modern Aircraft Project, Captain Ali Al-Yasiri, and Captain Ali Al-Hadidi, had piloted the plane on a direct flight from the United States of America, specifically from the Boeing Charleston Factory, to Baghdad, and the trip took about 13 flight hours.
He stated: “In line with the ministerial program, the General Airlines Company is close to strengthening its air fleet with other modern aircraft in the near future, within the framework of its endeavors to increase the efficiency of the company’s air fleet and achieve safe travel with high luxury for passengers.”
The Ministry noted: “The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner accommodates 266 passengers, divided into two classes: (Businessmen with 24 seats) and (Economy with 242 seats), explaining that the flight range of this type of aircraft is about 15,000 km, an average of 18 flying hours.
It indicated: “It is characterized by high technology, which is reflected in the comfort and safety of travelers.”
