RAMALLAH, Monday, May 8, 2023 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas today received at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, the Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the world, Ignatius Aphrem II. The President welcomed his guest and the church delegation accompanying him in Palestine, briefing him on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the continuous attacks by Jewish extremists on Islamic and Christian sanctities in the Holy Land. The President stressed to his guest the keenness of the State of Palestine to strengthen the authentic Christian presence in the Holy Land and to provide care for churches. In turn, Patriarch Ignatius expressed his great appreciation and thanks to President Mahmoud Abbas for the care provided by the State of Palestine to the churches, and the promotion and preservation of the Christian presence in the Holy Land. During the Patriarch’s visit, Archbishop Antimos Jack Yacoub was ordained as Patriarchal Vicar and Archbishop of the Syriac Orthodox in Jerusalem, Jordan and the Holy Land.
