HAVAL JOLION’s International Design for Global Users

BAODING, China, May 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Recently, GWM has released several globally-oriented new models, among which is HAVAL JOLION, originally inspired by the concept “JOY LIFE ON”, which has attracted a large number of users. To decode the new model’s high popularity, we had the honor of inviting Design Director Christopher Zarlenga to interpret the creative ideas of HAVAL JOLION.

HAVAL JOLION’s International Design for Global Users

Christopher said that its design inspiration came from a group of skater boys on the street. Touched by their energy and passion, Christopher came up with the concept “JOY LIFE ON”, in hopes of delivering an optimistic life attitude to global users.

Christopher explains that, “This enjoyment is brought to you by the user experience, by the design, by the joy on life concept we designed into the vehicle.” JOLION presents a fashionable style, while it is also a nice partner in urban life. For this model, six colors are available, including Hamilton White, Mars Red, Energy Green, Ayers Grey, Blue Sapphire, and Golden Black. Each color represents an image and reflects a personality, which may vary among people. The golden-ratio bodywork and the flexible flowing waist line enable its simple exquisiteness, presenting space for the imagination. Together with a smart and sharp front face, “halberd” type front LED headlamps, and luxury grille, this elegant SUV is vigorously dynamic, instantly awakening youth. In addition, it is designed with a comfortable cockpit and 26 storage places. Even large bottled drinks can be easily stored in the compartment in the door, allowing a more pleasant trip for gatherings. Moreover, intelligent technology brings about a better driving experience. With internetworking enabled, the central control screen and mobile phones can be easily connected as desired. Even in the car, users can experience the joy of being in a media room–playing games, watching movies, it is truly amusing. For those who are inexperienced or not good at parking, the one-key automatic parking provides great relief for a leisurely shopping experience. There are four driving modes, including Standard, Sport, Economy and Snow. The Snow mode can avoid track slip, the Sport mode provides a great back-pressing feeling with its amazing acceleration capability, the Economy mode immediately reduces the base fuel consumption; multiple options are offered to activate your free driving.

As Christopher said, “The forward-looking design is to bring value and high performance to the user. When usability and convenience meet in design, it’s designed for everybody.”

“JOY LIFE ON” focuses on consuming joy. More importantly, it values turning a happy life into productivity and becoming the master of fate. In terms of the design concept, the GWM has always emphasized “breakthrough innovation”. In particular, when it comes to feelings and culture, it has adhered to a user-centric principle and enabled vehicles to integrate into users’ lives and bring them values. In the future, by sticking to the approach of global car building, the GWM will produce more high-performance products, featuring both high-quality appearance and emotional experience.

CGTN: China gears up for sci-tech development, focusing more on self-reliance

BEIJING, May 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Almost two weeks ago, China succeeded in its first Mars landing, attracting world’s attention to the important milestone in China’s space exploration.

On Friday, science and technology as strategic support to national development, focusing on self-sufficiency and innovation, was once again highlighted in the country’s development roadmap with the convention of the 10th national congress of the China Association for Science and Technology in Beijing.

Sci-tech self-sufficiency and self-reliance

Accelerated efforts are needed in building China into a leading country in science and technology and achieving sci-tech self-reliance and self-sufficiency at higher levels, said Chinese President Xi Jinping while addressing the meeting attended by about 3,000 people.

Noting the importance of making breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields, President Xi stressed building a modern science and technology system with the innovation confederations led by leading enterprises, supported by universities and institutions, and coordinated innovation entities.

He pointed out that it is necessary to spur on the problem solving in major sci-tech tasks, targeting the most urgent and pressing problems, and proceed from the immediate and long-term needs of the country.

Basic and original research are critical in expanding new cognitive frontiers, he added.

China’s pursuit of independence in scientific innovation is reflected in its various achievements, including the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, the space exploration including lunar and Mars probes and the construction of China’s own space station, and the deep-sea manned submersible Fendouzhe. The country has also developed its own high-speed railway technologies, 5G communication technologies and artificial intelligence.

He also stressed the role of national laboratories and scientific research institutions, high-level research universities, and leading enterprises in science and technology, calling on them to make more strategic and key scientific and technological achievements and strive to solve major scientific and technological problems that affect China’s overall development and long-term interests.

Important are efforts in cultivating top-notch scientific and technological personnel with global influence, steadily supporting a number of innovation teams, and training more high-quality technical and skilled personnel, Xi said.

Innovation-driven development strategy

President Xi restressed the importance of innovation in the pursuit of developing and shaping the new development advantages mentioned in China’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for national economic and social development and the long-range objectives through to the year 2035.

In 2016, the Chinese government set the target to make China one of the most innovative countries by 2020 and a leading innovator by 2030, as well as a leading global S&T power by the 100th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 2049.

Efforts are needed in deepening the reform of the sci-tech system and form a basic system that supports all-around innovation, Xi said, adding that full play should be given to the role of the state as an organizer of major scientific and technological innovations.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as national strategic scientific and technological forces, should play a leading role, Xi noted, adding that the China Association for Science and Technology should shoulder the responsibility of the bridge between the government and the scientific and technological workers.

He called for efforts to get deeply engaged in global scientific and technological governance in areas such as public health and climate change, and make Chinese science and technology to contribute more to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The Chinese president also extended greetings to sci-tech workers across the country ahead of China’s national sci-tech workers’ day, which falls on May 30.

Palestinians in Germany protest media bias towards Israel

BERLIN, Saturday, May 29, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestinians in Germany yesterday demonstrated in Berlin against what they said was bias of the German media towards Israel in covering the recent Israeli aggression on the Palestinian territories.
Hundreds of Palestinians heeded a call by an organization called the Palestine Generation to demonstrate in front of the Federal Media Center in the German capital, holding banners that read: “When will the German media cover Israeli war crimes?” and “biased news ignores the killing of children in Palestine.”
In a statement delivered on behalf of the group, Adham Hassan said that they are not satisfied with the bias of the German news media, which only presents the Israeli point of view.
Hassan called on the German media to be objective in its coverage of news from Palestine, saying the newspapers did not write any news critical of the Israeli government.

Canada announces assistance for Palestinians affected by the recent Israeli violence in Gaza, West Bank

OTTOWA, Saturday, May 29, 2021 (WAFA) – Canada yesterday announced financial assistance for Palestinians affected by the recent Israeli violence in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and to ensure that emergency relief quickly reaches Palestinian civilians facing urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza, as well as those affected by violence in the West Bank.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $25 million in funding to support Palestinian civilians in the region. These funds will be provided to United Nations (UN) agencies and other organizations with proven track records of delivering assistance effectively and in accordance with Canadian requirements, said a statement by the Canadian prime minister’s office.
“The recent violence in the region is alarming – we have all seen the disturbing images of displaced civilians, loss of life, and pain inflicted on families. Today’s funding will go directly to experienced organizations which will help the most vulnerable Palestinian civilians cope with the impacts of the recent conflict. Canada will continue to support peacebuilding efforts that contribute to achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East,” said Trudeau.
Canada’s aid will include an immediate $10 million for urgent food assistance, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene, as well as for psychosocial support for the most vulnerable, including children.
The funding includes an additional $10 million to support humanitarian and rebuilding efforts to lay the foundation for sustainable recovery, such as vital medical infrastructure and measures to help families earn a living. Another $5 million will go for peacebuilding initiatives that advance the goal of a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East.
This support builds on Canada’s previous commitments in the region, said the statement. Ongoing support includes humanitarian assistance to help meet basic needs, as well as development assistance to improve socio-economic conditions for Palestinians.

New $30 million grant to support Palestinian reforms in digital economy, governance and pandemic resilience

WASHINGTON, Saturday, May 29, 2021 (WAFA) – The World Bank approved yesterday a $30 million Development Policy Grant (DPG) to support the digital foundations of the Palestinian economy, strengthen recovery and resilience post COVID-19, and improve governance and transparency in the public sector.
“The development policy grant will constitute valuable support to the already challenging fiscal situation, now being hit by the recent conflict in Gaza. This new grant will help alleviate the additional burden associated with Gaza’s needs for reconstruction and recovery. To help estimate these needs, the World Bank is partnering with the United Nations and the European Union to undertake a Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment,” said Kanthan Shankar, World Bank Country Director for West Bank and Gaza.
The $30 million grant will provide much needed financing to ease some of the fiscal stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, recently exacerbated by the conflict in Gaza, said a World Bank press release. Projections suggest a dramatic increase in poverty in 2020, leaving every second Gazan below the poverty line. With the continuation of the COVID-19 crisis and the impact of the 2021 Gaza conflict, the poverty rate is expected to have further increased.
With that background, the new program will support the Palestinian Authority (PA) to achieve selected strategic priorities outlined in the National Policy Agenda 2017-2022. The new DPG is based on the PA’s reform program to ensure full ownership in all areas of reform and supports the Bank’s twin goals of ending poverty and boosting shared prosperity.
In a first for DPG operations, this grant supports reforms in a new area that focuses on building the foundations of a digital economy through the adoption of a modern telecoms and information technology law, and the operationalization of e-payment companies. These reforms will boost connectivity within the Palestinian territories and beyond, notwithstanding the current constraints on the movement of goods and people.
Given that the Palestinian territories have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, the DPG supports reforms that the PA has adopted to facilitate recovery while also ensure stronger resilience in the face of future pandemics through reforms in the health, social, and water sectors. For example, the operation supports the rollout of an online system to facilitate access to social assistance to the poor and vulnerable affected by the COVID-19 crises. While encouraging easy access to the tool, the PA has made efforts to maintain high levels of transparency by ensuring that beneficiaries of the online registration system do not receive assistance through any other channels.
The third part of the program builds on reforms supported by previous operations, especially in the areas of governance and transparency, through supporting the PA’s efforts to continue improving the quality of public procurement practices, strengthen controls on the public wage bill and increase the transparency of medical spending.
“The new grant builds upon efforts supported by previous operations to secure continuity of reforms and serve the governance and transparency agenda. It also takes into consideration political economy aspects that impact the prioritization of reforms,” added Nur Nasser Eddin, World Bank Senior Economist.

PM Shtayyeh discusses the reconstruction of Gaza with the Swedish foreign minister

RAMALLAH, Saturday, May 29, 2021 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh today discussed in a virtual meeting with Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the efforts to provide the financial assistance for this endeavor, stressing that it should be done through the Palestinian Authority.
They also discussed the need to have a serious political path within a multinational framework that ends the occupation and guarantees the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
“We seek to accelerate the arrival of relief aid to the Gaza Strip, and the reconstruction process must begin according to new mechanisms that ensure its completion within an acceptable time frame, away from the old mechanism imposed by Israel, which was the reason for the slow process,” said Prime Minister Shtayyeh.
He reiterated the importance of holding elections in all the Palestinian territories, calling on Sweden to continue pressure on Israel to allow them to be held in Jerusalem, and to ensure that Jerusalem residents be able to participate in them as candidates and voting.
The two sides also discussed the importance of continuing to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to enable it to serve millions of Palestinian refugees in many countries, with Shtayyeh thanking Stockholm for being one of the most important donors to the agency.
