An American base in eastern Syria attacked by a missile

A base of the American forces, in eastern Syria, was attacked this evening, Monday, by a missile.

The Russian Agency “Sputnik” said that the American base in the “Koniko” gas field was subjected to a missile attack, noting that a series of explosions shook the area.

The Agency said, quoting its sources, that flames and columns of smoke were rising from the heart of the US army base.

It pointed out: Heavy flight of US aircraft in the area after the attack.

SAUDI COUNCIL OF SENIOR SCHOLARS: CALL TO ESTABLISH NEW ISLAMIC SCHOOL OF THOUGHT IS UNREALISTIC

The General Secretariat of the Saudi Council of Senior Scholars said on Monday that the call to establish a new Islamic school of thought is ‘unrealistic and lacks objectivity.’ Islamic Fiqh or jurisprudence, with its various recognized sects and legal interpretations, responds to all demands of modern life and balances between its needs and Islamic Sharia, it added. This is emphasized by scholarly bodies and jurisprudence groups that practice collective ‘ijtihad’, it went on to say. ‘God has blessed Muslims with the ease of collective ijtihad through these bodies that positively respond to the needs of society, its knowledge, social and economic development,’ it stressed. The hundreds of decisions that have been issued by the groups in various fields are evidence of this, it said.

Al-Sudani discusses with a parliamentary committee the government’s plans for economic reform

The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani, discussed with members of the Parliamentary Economy, Industry and Trade Committee the priorities of the government program in the field of economic reform.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement: “Al-Sudani received members of the Parliamentary Economy, Industry and Trade Committee. During the meeting, support for the private sector and the development of its status in the sectors of industry, agriculture, trade, and other sectors, which would contribute to addressing many accumulated problems, were discussed, foremost among them is unemployment.

Al-Sudani affirmed his keenness to communicate and coordinate continuously with the parliamentary committees. In order to integrate work, by approving laws that contribute to providing facilities required by the current stage, and aim to develop the economy, in line with the government’s plans that are included in the government curriculum.

The meeting witnessed the emphasis on the importance of the tripartite budget submitted by the government to achieve the required reform in various sectors, and to implement development plans in vital areas.

Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) Media Commission categorically denied any commercial activity between the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, and the brothers Teddy and Raymond Rahma. ‘The megaphone platform circulated news in which it claimed the existence of a supposed business relationship between party leader Walid Jumblatt and the brothers Teddy and Raymond Rahma, and this is not true at all, and there is no relationship in any way with the Rahma brothers,’ the statement said. ‘…In accordance with the principles of the Publications Law, we will sue the aforementioned platform for publishing false news,’ it concluded.

ONE PALESTINIAN KILLED BY ISRAELI FORCES IN WEST BANK RAID: HEALTH MINISTRY

Israeli forces killed one Palestinian and injured two others in a raid on a refugee camp near Jericho in the occupied West Bank on Monday, the Palestinian health ministry said. The Israeli army said its forces were operating in the Aqabat Jaber camp near Jericho, without providing further details. In a brief statement, the Palestinian ministry confirmed that one person had been killed ‘by occupation [Israeli] bullets in Jericho.’ It had earlier said that ‘two people were injured by live bullets in the lower extremities’ and taken to hospital. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it had transferred one person to hospital with a bullet wound to the head. The operation came a day after two British-Israeli women were buried after being killed in a shooting attack in the West Bank.

Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, presided over Easter Monday Mass service in Bkerke dedicated to France, in the presence of French Ambassador to Lebanon, Anne Grillo. “We are praying today for the intention of the French people and their president,” Patriarch Al-Rahi said. The Patriarch continued: “Without interdependence and solidarity, there will be no world after today, nor a life of peace. Today’s economy does not save the world, but rather tears it apart, and peace is built with cooperation and brotherhood.” Al-Rahi stressed that “it is necessary for Lebanon to return to its normal position in the Arab world and on the international map.”

Blast kills 4, wounds 15 people in SW Pakistan

At least four people, including two policemen, lost their lives while 15 others received injuries in a blast in Pakistan’s southwestern Baluchistan province on Monday, said police.

A senior police official, SSP Operations Captain Zohaib Mohsin in a statement to media said that the target of the blast was a police vehicle. He confirmed that the blast killed at least four people, including two policemen. The explosives were planted in a motorbike parked in a market on Shahrah-i-Iqbal road in Quetta city, the provincial capital. The blast also injured 15 people including women and children. The injured were immediately shifted to the nearest government run medical facility where the condition of two wounded people is reported critical. The official said that around four kilograms of explosive was used in the powerful blast that damaged the police van completely. Earlier last month, nine policemen lost their lives and 13 others were wounded in a suicide blast targeting a police van in Baluchistan’s Bolan district.

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the blast in Quetta. The prime minister condoled with the bereaved families, praying for the elevation of ranks of the martyred and for early recovery of those who were injured in the attack.

He directed officials to provide all possible medical facilities to the injured. The premier also sought a report on the terrorist attack from authorities, vowing that the nefarious designs of the terrorists would be foiled.

The blast comes two days after a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC), chaired by Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif and attended by top military and political leadership, on Friday agreed to launch an “all-out comprehensive operation” to rid the country of the menace of terrorism.

A press release after the meeting read, “The meeting agreed to launch an all-out comprehensive operation with [the participation of] the entire nation and government to rid the country of the menace of terrorism with renewed vigor and determination.”

Kuwait Cabinet holds first meeting after swearing in

The Kuwaiti Cabinet held Monday its first meeting after issuing the Decree No. 43 of 2023 and swearing in before His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Bayan Palace.

At the onset of the meeting, the Cabinet led by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah lauded the speech of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad on the occasion of taking oath by the government.

His Highness the Crown Prince’s speech included directives in which His Highness Sheikh Mishal stressed Kuwait’s supreme interest, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel said in a statement following the meeting.

“Achieving Kuwait’s comprehensive renaissance is our responsibility; the leadership, the government, the National Assembly and people. All people are partners in building the country and completing its march and progress,” His Highness the Crown Prince said in his speech.

His Highness the Crown Prince called on the ministers to take reform steps regarding essential issues and several dossiers of great importance, Al-Fadhel added.

His Highness the Crown Prince also called on the Cabinet to work within a team to implement fairly law to all, and achieve security of people and the country as well as upgrade service systems and combat corruption, Al-Fadhel said.

The Cabinet highly expressed its appreciation to these directives, stressing its full commitment to them.

Meanwhile, His Highness the Prime Minister opened the first meeting with a speech in which he welcomed the ministers, expressing appreciation to them for accepting to bear responsibility to overcome several challenges facing the dear homeland in this period.

The Prime Minister affirmed some rules of the Cabinet’s work like facilitating implementing its decisions and urged all ministers to serve citizens and facilitate their interests.

His Highness the Prime Minister thanked former ministers for their sincere efforts they made in achieving their tasks.

For his part, First Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister and Acting Defense Minister Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah expressed pride and appreciation to His Highness the Prime Minister, stressing making efforts to achieve the country’s goals and interest.

Sheikh Talal Khaled vowed to work seriously to meet aspirations of people, and achieve prosperity and further achievements in varied fields.

The Cabinet reviewed a letter from Minister of Justice on the Constitutional Court’s ruling issued on 19 March 2023 on annulling the whole National Assembly elections held on 29 September 2022 in the fifth constituencies.

The Cabinet discussed the details relating to the ruling and required measures to be taken in this matter.

The Cabinet affirmed its full respect of all judicial rulings and its commitment to implementing them, in line with the constitution.

The Cabinet then discussed the Civil Service Commission’s letter on Eid Al-Fitr holiday and decided to suspend work at all ministries, government institutions and bodies on April 21-25.

US Secretary of State to visit UK, Ireland, Vietnam, Japan

The US Department of State announced Monday that Secretary of State Antony Blinken will be embarking on a trip tomorrow to Europe and Asia where he will accompany President Joe Biden in the UK and Ireland until Friday then will head to Vietnam and Japan to conclude his trip on the April 18.

During his trip to Hanoi, Vietnam, the Secretary will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Partnership between the US and Vietnam, and engage in discussions with senior Vietnamese officials on a range of issues. “Among the topics for discussion will be our shared vision of a connected, prosperous, peaceful, and resilient Indo-Pacific region,” said principal deputy spokesperson for the US State Department, Vedant Patel, in a statement.

After Vietnam, the Secretary will travel to Karuizawa, Japan to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting where “he will meet with his counterparts to chart a path forward on a range of global issues, including Russia’s continued war against Ukraine, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, food and energy security, and advancing an affirmative vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific,” concluded Patel.

Indian, US Air Forces hold bilateral air exercise amid growing tension in region

Indian Air Force and the US Air Force began a bilateral air exercise in Indian air force bases located in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh amid growing tension in the region.

The Indian Defense Ministry said in a statement that a bilateral air exercise between the Indian Air Force and the US Air Force codenamed ‘Exercise Cope India 23’ is being held at Air Force Stations Arjan Singh, Kalaikunda in both West Bengal and Agra in Uttar Pradesh. “The exercise aims to enhance mutual understanding between the two Air Forces and share their best practices,” the statement said. The first phase of exercise that commenced today will focus on air mobility and will involve transport aircraft and Special Forces assets from both the countries. “Both sides will field the C-130J and C-17 aircraft, with the USAF operating an MC-130J, as well,” it added. Aircrew from Japanese Air Self Defense Force are also present during the exercise as observers. The bilateral air exercise comes amid growing tension between India and China over border disputes on the one hand and between the US and China especially in the backdrop of Chinese military drills near Taiwan after its President Tsai Ing-Wen met US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in California.

Amir Rep. visits Kuwait Blind Association

Representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Monday visited Kuwait Blind Association.

His Highness the Crown Prince delivered a speech, in which he conveyed greetings of His Highness the Amir to Association’s members on the holy month of Ramadan.

His Highness the Crown Prince wished every success to the Association under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir.

His Highness congratulated the Association on its 50th anniversary, as well as on its efforts and contributions on social, cultural, academic and sport levels, especially the distribution of Braille-system Quran copies both locally and abroad.

During the visit, His Highness the Crown Prince was accompanied by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nawaf Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister and Acting Defense Minister Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad, as well as senior state officials.

His Highness the Crown Prince was received by Minister of Social Affairs, Woman and Child Affairs Mai Al-Baghli. Chairman of the Association Fayez Al-Azmi welcomed His Highness the Crown Prince, conveying his congratulations and greetings to His Highness the Amir on Ramadan.
