Kuwait University achieves significant improvement of (Times Higher Education)

Kuwait University announced Thursday that it achieved a significant improvement in the indicators of the (Times Higher Education) in its latest edition, for the year 2023.

In a press release, the university said that it achieved this improvement through the continuous and tireless pursuit to reach the highest levels of academic and research quality.

This indicator is one of the most prestigious international rankings in the field of higher education, as it evaluates the impact of universities and educational institutions on society and the surrounding environment, the statement added.

It takes into consideration the 17 goals of the UN sustainable development plan.

Indicators of the Times Higher Education are calculated through balanced comparisons of three areas, including scientific research, knowledge, and communication and ways to employ them to serve society, states, and the world.

Kuwait University was able to make remarkable progress in seven sustainable development goals in the (Times) classification of the impact of international universities in sustainable development, the statement added.

This year Kuwait University maintained its performance in four goals and ranked 601-800 out of 1591 universities and higher education institutions.

The university affirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable development and goals set by the UN, as it realizes the importance of education, scientific research and community participation in achieving positive change and contributing to achieving these global goals.

It expressed its thanks all those responsible for preparing the required data and providing it to the Times Foundation, and to all the university’s affiliates, members of the academic and administrative body for their efforts that contributed to achieving this progress, looking forward to achieve more progress and achievements in the future.

Lebanon examines Kuwait’s experience in protecting consumers

Lebanon is aspiring to take lessons from Kuwait’s successful experience in the consumer protection sector, the country’s minister of economy and commerce said.

Amin Salam was speaking after a meeting on Thursday with a delegation from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Industry and Commerce, chaired by the assistant undersecretary Dr. Mohammad Al-Jalal, currently visiting Lebanon in response to an invitation from the Lebanese ministry and ESCWA, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia.

In remarks to KUNA, Salam said his department is working with ESCWA to re-regulate its administrative system, adding that the talks with the Kuwaiti delegation aimed at examining the Kuwaiti authorities’ protection of the consumers.

Kuwait has had a successful experience in protecting the consumer, thus Lebanon can benefit from it as a start of tackling its economic crisis, he said, affirming the dire need for checking commodities’ high prices.

For his part, Al-Jalal affirmed in remarks To KUNA significance of the cooperation between the two ministries, noting that legislations in Kuwait are quite effective in keeping commodities’ prices at reasonable levels.

Panel investigating prison “incidents” recommends case be referred to prosecution

The panel tasked with investigating “the incidents” that had happened at the central prison recommended on Thursday that the case be referred to the public prosecution.

The commission had been set up by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and the Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the commission, established according to the minister’s resolution, advised that the case be submitted to the general prosecution.

The minister had dismissed two senior officials that oversee the correction facilities against the backdrop of the prison incidents.

Minister of Transport appreciates Supervisory & International Committee efforts to save environment in Red Sea

The Minister of Transport, Abdulwahab Yahya Al-Durra, paid tribute to the supervisory committee’s efforts to implement the plan to replace the floating reservoir (Safer) and the United Nations efforts that led to the effective commencement of the plan to save the Red Sea marine environment and the countries overlooking it from a major disaster in the event of an oil spill from the floating reservoir.

During his meeting on Thursday with Sana’a, the representative of the World Food Programme of Yemen, Richard Ragan, and representatives of the Office of the United Nations Envoy to Yemen and humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen, the Minister of Transport commended the three-year efforts of the Supervisory and International Commission until the purchase of the ship to which oil would be withdrawn from the old reservoir Safer, currently in DJibouti.

“Today we are in the first step of the last phase in order to save the floating reservoir and prevent an environmental catastrophe that could be the largest in history,” he said.

The Minister stressed the need to adhere to the plan and not delay, stressing that the plan should include the implementation of the replacement ship’s permanent maintenance programme so that the problem would not be repeated again.

He noted the need for all parties to fulfil their duties in all humanity and impartiality so that our country can overcome the effects of the nine-year-old aggression and economic blockade.

In turn, the representative of the World Food Programme stressed the importance of humanitarian action and fruitful joint cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and its bodies and institutions to meet the needs of the Yemeni people.

CDI calls for reduction of dams & water barriers

The Civil Defence Interest (CDI) made an urgent appeal to officials of dams and water barriers in various provinces.

The call for the rapid opening of drainage channels and the reduction of water in dams and water barriers by at least 25 per cent of the total capacity of the dam or water barrier, and to keep pace with the rainfall by maintaining the required reduction rate, in order to avoid its flooding or collapse.

In a statement to Saba, the Civil Defence Interest warned citizens against being present or crossing from torrential corridors and waterfalls during the rainfall.

President of Endowment Authority reveals Authority’s intention to establish a waqf investment project during the year 1445 AH

The President of the General Authority of Endowment scholar Abdulmajid Abdulrahman Al-Houthi has unveiled an investment project that the Authority intends to implement over the next year 1445 A.D.

Al-Houthi scholar said in a press interview with the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), which will be published later, that the project is to establish Al-Sammad medical towers that will be implemented at an important site in the security of the capital.

He said: “The Authority will open the door to subscribing to this project to anyone who wishes to participate in it, whether with investment shares for the financial benefit of its owner or with endowment shares of God, which are allocated to a specific bank by its owner.”

The Endowment Authority had established standards for dealing with Awqaf lands tenants and had initially begun to apply those standards, which would take account of the differences between rich and poor.

The President of the Awqaf Authority confirmed that the rents of the insolvent who rented waqf land for the purpose of building residential houses have a special status and will be treated in accordance with those standards and regulations that will take into account their physical situation. The Authority is working to correct the stereotypical and inadequate attitudes towards endowments, which cause society’s reluctance to stop.

He pointed out that the steps taken by the Authority are focused on correcting the role of Waqfs as an important and vital resource for social and economic development and returning the Waqfs to its normal course to ensure adherence to the commandments of the Waqfs.
