Israeli Occupation Forces Arrest 31 Palestinians from Several Areas in West Bank

Israeli occupying forces launched a massive campaign of arrests, involving 31 Palestinians from several different areas of the West Bank.

The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported that Israeli occupying forces raided the village of Teqoa in south-east Bethlehem and arrested 23 Palestinians, after raiding and searching the homes of their relatives.

In Hebron, four Palestinians were arrested by Israeli occupying forces after their homes were stormed and searched. In addition, Israeli occupying forces arrested a young man from the town of Qabatiya in Jenin, while three others from Nablus were arrested.

According to the same sources, Israeli occupying forces stormed the camp of Al-Fawar in Hebron, as well as the village of Seris in Jenin, through which they raided and searched a number of houses.

The Israeli occupying forces are conducting almost daily arrests and raids in the areas of the West Bank and the occupied city of Jerusalem, as part of their repressive practices against the Palestinian people.

Qatar Hosts Volleyball Challenging Cup for First Time in Middle East

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) decided to grant the State of Qatar the honor of hosting the Volleyball Challenging Cup 2023, which will be held in July, for the first time in the Middle East.

FIVB had announced its decision after examining requests submitted by several countries, adding that the State of Qatar was the most prominent choice to host the 2023 edition of the tournament.

For his part, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari said in a statement on this occasion, that the State of Qatar’s tremendous credit in hosting major sports tournament has made QVA attain great importance to the development of volleyball to the international level, in light of the readiness of the international sports facilities on which the tournament will be held.

Al Kuwari expressed that the association looks forward to welcome the participation of teams, as well as officials of FIVB in a celebration that he described as ‘extraordinary’.

Al Kuwari concluded his speech by appreciating FIVB’s trust and confidence in the capabilities of QVA, expressing – at the same time, his gratitude to the Qatar Olympic Committee for its great support for the association, and for the success of hosting the tournament.

Qatar Elected as Chair of WHO Executive Board

The Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) elected the State of Qatar as President of the Board at its 153rd session for period of one year.

The election is an acknowledgment by Member States of the leading role played by the State of Qatar at the international level, and its strong support for the World Health Organization in performing its mission of promoting health and wellness for all.

HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari expressed the State of Qatar’s appreciation to the Member States for the confidence they had shown in electing the State of Qatar Chair of the Executive Board, and confirmed to work closely with the Member States and the WHO’s governing bodies to implement the goals of the World Health Organization and achieve universal health coverage.

The meetings of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization began Wednesday in its 153rd session, for two days, in Geneva, Switzerland, chaired by HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari.

The meetings of the Board discuss a number of important topics, most notably the outcome of the meetings of the Seventy-sixth World Health Assembly, the Committee’s report on health emergency prevention, preparedness and response, in addition to topics related to the fourth pillar of the World Health Organization regarding the enhancement of the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness in providing countries with better support and improving the budgetary, programmatic and finance governance of WHO.

The main functions of the Board are to implement the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, and advise and generally to facilitate its work.

The Board is composed of 34 members who are technically qualified in the field of health, and they meet at least twice a year.
