12 killed, 7 injured as two passenger buses collide in E. India – police

Twelve people were killed and seven others were injured following two passenger buses collided head on in Ganjam district of eastern Indian state of Odisha on Monday, Indian police said.

The Asian News International said quoting Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek that a private bus carrying a marriage party from Khandadeuli village in Berhampur collided head on with another state owned passenger bus killing 12 people and injuring seven others.

The accident took place near Digapahandi on Berhampur-Taptapani road.

The local police engaged in rescue operation soon after the incident and moved the injured to local hospitals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Naveen Patnaik expressed their grief and promised financial support to the injured and the relatives of the dead.

Cholera outbreak claims 43 more lives in South Africa

A cholera outbreak in South Africa has killed 43 more people while 197 others were infected, the health ministry said on Monday, urging the public to stick to health precautions to keep the waterborne disease at bay.

While the infection rate has slowed down thanks in part to a national campaign aiming to clamp down on the outbreak, a ministry statement said that improved hygiene conditions could halt a further spread of the disease.

South Africa reported a cholera outbreak last February, when the first fatality linked to the ailment was registered.

A Legal Expert warns of repeating the scenario of disrupting the budget at the end of the current and next year

The Legal Expert, Counselor Salem Hawass, warned of the danger of repeating the scenario of disrupting the budget in the event that the House of Representatives does not approve the upcoming fiscal years for the years 2024, 2025, in order to present each one before its start and before the end of the fiscal year for the preceding year.

Hawass said in a statement, “The Iraqi Al-Waqa’i newspaper affiliated with the Ministry of Justice, when it announced today, Monday, the publication of Law No. (13) for the year 2023” related to the federal general budget of the Republic of Iraq for the fiscal years (2023-2024-2025), which obligated and retroactively issued immediate instructions in accordance with the provisions of Article 78, Item III of the Budget Law.

Hawass added, “When the Ministry of Finance noted its continued cooperation with the Ministry of Justice in auditing the general federal budget law 2023, which the Iraqi parliament recently voted on regarding its publication in the Iraqi Gazette, it is not excused if there is a legal error in publishing the budget.

Hawass called on “all agencies and the media not to adopt statements in this regard except by official sources authorized by law for the regularity of the workflow in accordance with the law after the necessity of immediate coordination between the Federal Minister of Finance and the Federal Minister of Planning to issue those instructions to facilitate the implementation of the provisions of this law if it is approved in accordance with for the provisions of Article 78, item first of the law.

The Fourth Region Border Command arrested a suspect in his possession a quantity of drugs.

The Ministry of the Interior stated in a statement: “Based on intelligence information, a force from the Coast Border Command arrested a suspect in his possession (2) kg of crystal by an ambush of the command after chasing him and opening fire on him for trying to escape with his car and injuring him, after drugs were thrown to him on the bank of the Shatt al-Arab, in the Maamer area by a boat coming from one of the neighboring countries, and returned quickly, indicating that the smuggler is currently in a hospital, and legal measures will be taken against him.

Al-Awadi announces the delivery of a copy of the semi-annual report to Parliament

The Iraqi government Spokesman, Basem Al-Awadi, announced today, Monday, that the government program team delivered a copy of the semi-annual report to Parliament.

Al-Awadi told the official News Agency, “The government program team delivered today a copy of the first semi-annual report of the government program to the Presidency of Parliament.”

He added, “This came before the start of the blessed Eid Al-Adha holiday.”

Tehran: We reject the accusations of supplying drones to Russia

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, renewed his country’s rejection of the accusations of supplying drones to Russia.

Kanaani said in press statements: “Our relations go back to before the Ukrainian crisis, and linking it with Ukraine is false political accusations, indicating that Iran does not provide any weapons, equipment or drones to Russia.”

He added, “Ukraine or the European countries did not provide evidence or documents regarding their claims in this regard, and the Ukrainian side also did not provide documents during the meeting between the delegations of Iran and Ukraine, and we expressed our readiness to continue these consultations, but Ukraine did not welcome that,” stressing that the crisis must be resolved through different political means..

Kanaani indicated that “relationships with Russia are based on mutual interests and in accordance with international conventions, and our relations are not against any other party.”
