Civil Aviation Authority organizes honoring ceremony on International Labor Day occasion

The Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority and its various sectors organized on Wednesday an honoring ceremony on the occasion of International Labor Day.

At the ceremony, the Minister of Transport, Abd al-Wahhab Yahya al-Durra, praised the efforts of the leaders and workers of the ministry, its bodies and institutions, engineers and technicians in the Aviation Authority and its sectors, and their role in continuing work and technical operational readiness under the continuous bombardment of the aggression, especially at Sana’a International Airport.

He stressed that the professional and technical workers in the transport sectors thwarted the plans of the aggression to paralyze air, sea and land transport, indicating that the aggression coalition targeted the transport sectors due to its realization of its importance in providing humanitarian services.

He pointed to the importance of reviving International Workers’ Day because of the connotations it bears in highlighting the militant role of workers and their steadfastness during the past eight years, despite the aggression targeting all the life and infrastructure of the Yemeni people.

The Minister urged al-Durra to make more efforts and double the work during the next stage in construction and reconstruction of what was destroyed by the aggression in the various transport facilities and sectors and to restart the airports of Taiz, Hodeida and Sa’ada.

He called for the opening of Sana’a International Airport to all civil flights and to multiple destinations via Yemeni airlines and Arab and international airlines as it was before the aggression, considering that it is a right of the Yemeni people and not a favor from anyone.

And the Minister of Transport indicated that international shipping lines have resumed their activity and work through the port of Hodeidah, pointing to the need for international airlines to resume their work through Sana’a International Airport to reduce the burdens on Yemenis, provide options and competition between companies, and reduce traveler costs.

In turn, the Undersecretary of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority, Raed Jabal, pointed out the importance of celebrating International Labor Day to remind the workers of Yemen and the employees of the Authority and its sectors, of unparalleled steadfastness and stability in various sectors.

He said, “We celebrate with the workers of the world, despite the exceptional situation imposed by the aggression since March 26, 2015 AD. The Yemeni people lived through its suffering, met with steadfastness, sacrifice, and pride that conquered the tyrant and thwarted his plans.”

Jabal pointed out that the Civil Aviation Authority was able to maintain its technical operational readiness with the help of its technical workers, engineers and professionals who worked and remained steadfast under the bombing.

He added, “We continued to operate Yemeni airports with supplies and equipment that were destroyed by the aggression coalition and besieged and prevented the entry of any equipment related to civil aviation in accordance with international standards, thanks to the efforts of engineers, technicians and workers in the authority and its sectors.”

He stressed the need to redouble efforts and sharpen determination in the phase of construction, reconstruction and development. He said, “We are facing an actual battle that began with re-readiness of airports, including buildings, runways, navigational and meteorological stations, firefighting equipment, electricity and other equipment to operate airports in a better, modern manner.”

Jabal appealed to the international community, organizations and partners in the field of air transport to unconditionally lift the ban on Yemeni airports and airspace.
