EU: Smotrich’s remarks are wrong, disrespectful, dangerous, and counterproductive

The European Union today expressed deep regret over the remarks made by Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich during a special meeting in France, describing his remarks as wrong, disrespectful, dangerous, and counterproductive in an already very tense situation.

The EU office in Jerusalem told WAFA that Smotrich’s remarks are once again going in the opposite direction and cannot be tolerated.

It called on the Israeli government to disassociate itself from such statements and to work with all concerned parties to defuse tension.

The EU further expressed its grave concern over the escalating violence on the ground, calling for taking necessary measures to decrease the escalation, such as the recent meetings in Aqaba and Sharm el-Sheikh.

The EU office in Jerusalem affirmed that it will continue with its long-standing commitment to the two-state solution, with the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State living side by side in peace and security with Israel.
