FM Malki urges Germany to pressure Israel for ceasefire in Gaza


RAMALLAH: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad al-Malki, today called on his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, to pressure Israel for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to urgently bring basic humanitarian needs to Palestinians there.

During a meeting in Ramallah, Malki briefed his German counterpart on the conditions in the Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing genocidal war against innocent civilians for the fourth month, the destruction of all fundamental elements of human existence in the Strip and turning it into an uninhabitable place.

Malki also addressed the continuous and daily violations by the occupation and colonists in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which include incursions into Palestinian cities, villages and refugee camps, the killing of Palestinian civilians, and the escalation of colonial construction.

He expressed his rejection of all proposals issued by some Israeli officials about their vision for the day after the end of the war, stressing that ins
tead of talking about the next day, the priority now must focus on an immediate ceasefire, stopping the forced displacement of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and introducing humanitarian needs to the Strip.

He also stressed the importance of supporting the State of Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, which will lead to the embodiment of the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, to achieve security and stability in the region.

For her part, the German Foreign Minister affirmed her country’s clear and firm position on the necessity of protecting the civilian population, affirming that their suffering cannot continue any longer.

She stressed the necessity of reaching humanitarian truces and creating a clear political horizon that supports the two-state solution and lays the foundation for sustainable peace and security, noting that the Palestinian National Authority plays a fundamental and central role as a legitimate authority in the West Bank and
Gaza Strip.
