Foreign Ministry: Building new settlement units destroys two-state solution

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned in the strongest terms today Israel’s reported approval of the construction of thousands of new settlement units in the occupied West Bank, saying the move was aimed at boosting settlement construction at the expense of the occupied State of Palestine.

The Ministry also strongly condemned the attacks by armed Israeli settler militias on the Palestinian citizens, their land, vehicles and homes across the occupied West Bank, including continuous provocative bullying by Israeli settlers at the main roads and streets.

“The Israeli occupation authorities’ decision to build thousands of new settlement units is a blatant challenge of international legitimacy and its decisions and the international consensus rejecting settlements, including the US administration and its position and decisions on settlement,” said the Ministry in a statement.

The statement affirmed that settlements are “a violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions, and a serious threat to the chances of achieving peace and restoring the political horizon for resolving the conflict in accordance with principle of the two-state solution.”

The Ministry called on the US administration to act quickly to pressure the Israeli government to stop this decision and to force it to stop the attacks by settlers and their terrorist organizations against defenseless Palestinian civilians.
