Israeli ‘Defense’ Minister imposes penalties on Palestinian prisoners from Jerusalem

Israeli Minister of ‘Defense’ Yoav Gallant issued today an order imposing financial penalties on 87 Palestinian prisoners from occupied Jerusalem, under the pretext of receiving money from the Palestinian Authority.

WAFA correspondent said Gallant signed a decree to seize funds worth millions of shekels from the 87 prisoners, who are held in Israeli jails, under the pretext that they had received these funds from the Palestinian Authority.

Meantime, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the sealing off of the house of Palestinian martyr Hussein Qaraqe in the occupied Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya, in preparation for its demolition.

Hard-right Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir also said today he will ask the Israeli government to start a military operation in occupied Jerusalem, which includes setting up checkpoints in Al-Isawiya and ordering the police to search Palestinian vehicles and homes.

Last month, the so-called Israeli Ministerial Committee on National Security Affairs ordered the deduction of approximately 139 million shekels (nearly $39 million) from Palestinian Authority funds in favor of the so-called “Israeli victims of terrorism”.

The Israeli Ministerial Committee also ordered at the time offsetting the welfare payments made by the Palestinian governments to the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and the families of those killed by Israeli occupation forces in 2022.
