RAMALLAH, Israeli forces Wednesday overnight detained 17 Palestinians and injured four others across the West Bank, according to security sources.
They said that Israeli forces rounded up two Palestinians after storming their houses in Jalazone refugee camp, north of Ramallah city.
The raid triggered confrontations during which the soldiers fired barrages of tear gas canisters and stun grenades towards local teens. No casualties were reported though.
The soldiers rounded up two others after breaking into and ransacking their houses in Kafr Ni’ma town, northwest of the city.
They conducted a similar raid in Bili‘in village, west of the city, resulting in the detention of another.
In the northern West Bank, Israeli military vehicles stormed al-Ma‘ajin neighborhood of Nablus, where soldiers detained a resident after ransacking his house.
The soldiers detained two others in separate two raids in Rujeib and Beit Dajan villages, southeast and east of the city.
In Jenin district, undercover Israeli forces, known as Musta’ribeen or Mista’arvim in Hebrew, sneaked their way into Jenin refugee camp, and abducted a resident.
Then, soldiers in military uniforms raided the camp and opened fire towards the residents and youths who attempted to block their passage, injuring two by bullets in the foot and hand and hitting a woman by a stun grenade.
A similar Israeli military raid was conducted in Anzah village, southwest of Jenin, resulting in the detention of two others.
In the southern West Bank, the soldiers forced their way into Dheisheh refugee camp, south of Bethlehem, and detained two teens, aged 17 and 18, after storming the houses of their families.
During ensuing confrontations, the soldiers opened fire towards local youths, hitting one with a live round in the foot.
The casualty was rushed to a hospital in Bethlehem for urgent treatment.
The sources confirmed that the soldiers detained three others; two young men, including an 18-year-old high school student, from Husan village, west of the city, and another from Artas village, south of the city.
Meanwhile,, a Palestinian was detained in a raid in the southern part of Hebron city.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
