Minister briefs int’l donors on political modernization in Jordan

Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Wajih Azaiza underscored that the ministry seeks, through its various plans, to expand political participation and encourage political parties, focusing specifically on empowering women and youth, during a meeting on Tuesday with international civil society organizations. Azaiza explained that the government is working in partnership with various partners to raise awareness about legislation regulating political life and enhance citizens’ participation in political and partisan work to achieve the goals of the political modernization track. He pointed out that the ministry continues its meetings in the governorates and universities to reach citizens in all regions of the Kingdom, in cooperation with partners, calling on international organizations to direct their support to awareness-raising and training programs and activities related to the process of political modernization, in addition to following up and evaluating these programs and activities in partnership with the ministry. He also stressed the importance of establishing a specialized training center in partnership with the political parties to supervise the awareness campaigns and political and partisan education, and having liaison officers from these parties at the ministry to facilitate and follow up on the implementation of the programs. The minister thanked partner international organizations, underlining the need to hold an expanded working session that includes various international institutions that own projects and seek to implement them in the Kingdom on political and partisan participation. For their part, international donor organizations expressed their commitment to supporting the ambitious projects being implemented by the ministry.
