Morocco’s Atlas Lions celebrate historic win with flags of Palestine

Several players of Morocco’s Atlas Lions national team raised flags of Palestine on the pitch last night as they celebrated their historic win over Portugal 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar.

Following the dramatic win, Morocco became the first Arab and African nation to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals.

Moroccan football fans and other nationals also waved flags of Palestine and “Free Palestine” banners during the match, which knocked out Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo out of the tournament.

The flag bearing move was received massive praise by Palestinians and Arabs on social media, as users from almost all Arab countries celebrated Morocco’s win.

Massive celebrations were also held across Palestine, including the West Bank, Gaza, Jerusalem and the Arab cities within the Green Line, with thousands of fans taking to the streets while playing horns and blaring the horns of cars in ecstasy.

In occupied Jerusalem, Israeli occupation forces attacked Palestinians celebrating the win at the Damascus Gate area, and scores of Israeli police officers, some of them on horseback, assaulted the Palestinian fans and chased them in the vicinity of the Damascus Gate plaza, all the way to Salaheddine Street.
