Newspaper Review: President Abbas’ statements during cabinet session focus of dailies

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that the President Abbas Monday chaired the weekly cabinet session in Ramallah, and stated during the opening of the session that the Palestinian popular resistance [to the Israeli occupation and settler-colonialism] is witnessing a remarkable development in terms of quality in the current period.”

“Every Palestinian citizen, irrespective of his or her sex or age, marches in the peaceful rallies. I have witnessed [the residents of] Beita town in addition to a large number of Palestinian cities and villages confronting this Israeli brutal aggression with their bare chests,” said president Abbas.

Al-Hayat al-Jadids said that the presidency in a statement issued highly appreciated the call made by the South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, for the international community to take the necessary measures to put an end to ongoing grievances that the Palestinians face under the illegal Israeli occupation, and to ensure holding Israel accountable for the suffering and inhumane conditions that the Palestinians are subjected to for 73 years.

The dailies said that the Israeli occupation forces demolished several Palestinian-owned structures in Khirbet Ibzei community, north of the Jordan Valley city of Tubas.

The Israeli occupation forces demolished a Palestinian-owned water pond in the town of Birzeit, north of Ramallah, which a local landowner was using to irrigate his grape field, as reported in the papers.

Palestinian residents in the village of Yatma to the south of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank, fended off today evening an attack by Israeli settlers against the village, the dailies added.

The dailies said Israeli occupation forces delivered stop-construction notices against a number of houses belonging to Palestinian residents in the village of Qasra to the south of Bethlehem, in the southern occupied West Bank.

They also added that a large army force conducted a raid in Jenin city, sparking violent confrontations as the gun-toting soldiers opened fire toward local young men, hitting one with a live round in the thigh.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that an upsurge in coronavirus cases in Palestine prompted Health Minister Mai Alkaila to warn of the start of a sixth wave of COVID-19 as 1000 new cases were confirmed yesterday in the West Bank.
