News about the Palestinians’ marking of the 74th anniversary of the 1948 Nakba (catastrophe) as well as the death of a Palestinian fighter at an Israeli hospital after he was critically wounded by Israeli army gunfire on Friday hit the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that thousands of Palestinians marked the 74th anniversary of the Nakba when nearly 700,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed from their homes in historic Palestine by invading Zionist militias.
The central rally was held in Ramallah while other Palestinian cities and towns witnessed different kinds of activities marking this anniversary.
The three dailies also said that Doud Zubeidi, a Palestinian from Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, was pronounced dead at an Israeli hospital, where he was held, of injuries he sustained on Friday during an Israeli raid on the camp.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that dozens of Palestinians were injured during clashes that broke out with Israeli forces at the northern entrance to al-Bireh city.
The dailies reported that an Israeli settler from the illegal settlement of Yitzhar, south of Nablus, kidnapped a Palestinian boy outside his school in the village of Urif in the occupied West Bank province of Nablus.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that France expressed its shock at the attack on the funeral procession of slain journalist Shireen Abu Akleh last Friday in occupied Jerusalem.
The papers added that Jordan’s King Abdallah II extended condolences to the family of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in a phone call with her brother, Anton Abu Akleh, condemning the crime committed against her while covering the Israeli raid of Jenin camp. In the meantime, on the instructions of King Abdallah, the Jordan Media Institute announced that it will allocate an annual scholarship to obtain a master’s degree in journalism and media for Palestinian female journalists in honor of Abu Akleh, and at the expense of the King.
Al-Ayyam said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called for a credible investigation into the Israeli shooting death of Abu Akleh.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli police arrested Palestinian students at Tel Aviv University who were marking the Nakba anniversary.
Al-Quds said the Israeli High Court rejected four petitions against an ariel cable car in Jerusalem, while al-Ayyam said the High Court gave the green light for building the controversial cable car that is expected to go over the old city of Jerusalem and built on Palestinian property that will be expropriated.
It said residents of the Arab town of Nahaf in northern Israel protested the building of a railway through their town.
It also said that thousands of people came to the mourning house of slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in Ramallah.
