Palestine logs 872 COVID cases, 12 deaths

Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 872 new cases of COVID-19, 12 deaths and 1,380 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the last 24-hour reporting period.

In her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic, Alkaila said six deaths from COVID-19 were registered in the Gaza Strip, and another six deaths were reported in the West Bank.

A total of 5,990 COVID-19 tests were conducted during the reporting period. In the Gaza Strip, 511 coronavirus tests came out positive, while the West Bank had 361 new cases.

No update was available regarding the situation in occupied Jerusalem.

The Health Minister said that in the West Bank, 186 patients of COVID-19 are hospitalized, of whom 68 are in intensive care, including 17 on ventilators.

She pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 93 percent, while active cases declined to 6 percent. Deaths stood at only one percent of total infections.

Concerning rollout of vaccines, the Health Minister said over 1,416,200 people have received their first jab of the vaccine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, of whom 776,700 have been fully vaccinated.
