Palestine’s response team pulls out five bodies from the rubble in Malatya

On its first day into the rescue operations in the areas terribly hit by the tragic earthquake in southern Turkey, the Palestinian rapid response and intervention team pulled out today the bodies of five people buried under the rubble in the southern city of Malatya, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense.

Lit. Colonel Raed Kazmouz, Director of Central Operations in the Palestinian Civil Defense, told WAFA that the Palestinian rapid response team began its work today Malatya in cooperation with the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), where two collapsed buildings were thoroughly searched by the team, during which 5 bodies of one family were pulled out and handed over to AFAD.

He pointed to that although Malatya it is not the most badly hit by the earthquake in southern Turkey, the magnitude of destruction there is formidable and the temperature at night falls to as low as 8 degrees Celsius, making rescue works there extremely challenging.

The Palestinian rapid response team in Turkey consists of 15 members of the Palestinian Civil Defense and 10 members of the Palestinian Red Crescent, in addition to one medical doctor, Kazmouz explained.

Another Palestinian team was also deployed to the areas badly hit by the earthquake in northwestern Syria, with Jableh being the first city targeted by the Palestinian relief efforts.
