Palestinian recuperating from injury among 22 detained from West Bank

RAMALLAH, Israeli forces Wednesday overnight detained 22 Palestinians, including one who is recuperating from an injury, from various parts of the West Bank, according to local and security sources.

They said that Israeli soldiers rounded up three young Palestinian men, including two brothers, from their homes in Beita town, south of Nablus city in the northern West Bank.

One of the detainees, 22, was recently hit by Israeli military live ammunition as he participated in an anti-settlement rally in Abu Sbeih Mountain near the town. He was discharged from hospital just two days ago.

In Tulkarm district, a sizable Israeli military force barged their way into Tulkarm refugee camp, where they detained a Palestinian.

They re-arrested a former prisoner after breaking into and tampering with the contents of his house in Dhanaba neighborhood, east of the city.

In the central West Bank district of Ramallah and al-Bireh, the sources confirmed an Israeli military raid in Ein Yabrud village, northeast of al-Bireh, resulting in the detention of five villagers.

The soldiers conducted a similar raid in Burqa village, east of Ramallah, where they ransacked several houses and detained four others.

In the southern West Bank, Israeli soldiers rounded up eight others, including a former political prisoner, in several parts across Hebron district.

The sources elaborated that the soldiers re-arrested a former prisoner from his house in Sa‘ir town, northeast of Hebron.

The soldiers also detained another from Ash-Shuyukh town, northeast of Hebron, two others from Taffouh town, west of Hebron, and another from Beit Kahil town, northwest of the city.

The soldiers stormed and thoroughly searched several houses and detained three others in Hebron city.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
