Palestinian sustain gunshot wounds from Israeli army in Hebron

A Palestinian young man today sustained gunshot wounds from Israeli army gunfire in Bab Az-Zawiya area in Hebron, according to WAFA correspondent.

He said that the gun-toting soldiers manning the checkpoint at the entrance of al-Shuhada Street stormed the downtown of the old city and opened fire towards local young men in the course of confrontations, hitting one by a live round in the foot.

The casualty was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

He added that dozens others suffocated from excessive tear gas inhalation. They were treated at the scene.

The city of Hebron, which houses the Ibrahimi Mosque, is home to roughly 160,000 Palestinian Muslims and about 800 Israeli settlers who live in compounds heavily guarded by Israeli troops.

Israel has expelled the only international monitors protecting Hebron’s Palestinians from 800 heavily guarded settlers, one of whom committed the 1994 massacre that triggered their deployment.
